Integrated phone questions from a puzzled newbie:

OK, guys, I did a forum search, yet am still puzzled. I've got an '04 (may '04 build E500 w/ the voice controlled phone, only without the actual handset. I understand I could easily get a phone from the dealer (and grab my ankles) or on ebay, which seems a better deal.
But........ I don't much care for the archaic V60 phone which seems to be the correct match and don't know if it will work with Verizon, my carrier.
In short, has anyone figured out how to ue a newer phone that doesn't seem to date waaaay back to the Startac and actually has some more "modern" features?
I saw several threads on various V phones, but reluctantly admit I am still puzzled as my knowledge of cell phones is, um, limited. The "stealer" (a/k/a dealer) is of limited use. All they have is some kid behind the parts counter trying to unload an ancient phone in a dust covered box.
Can anyone make any suggestions?

As always, thanks in advance

Jim

Jim, your car will work with the v710 or v600 with appropriate cradle. Both items must be purcahsed at the dealer. Off shelf models will NOT work. Or you can get a mbenznl kit for a UHI phone. www.mbenznl.com

"UHI" phone?. Ah, now I see-- figured out who mbenznl is! Now all I have to do is try my hand at google or something to see what a v710 phone or v600 looks like! Just out of curiosity, where/how did you learn all of this??
Thanks again for your help-- I hope the dealer will know what these models are!

Also, check out this site: http://www.mikbox.com/

They have been able to use a variety of Motorola phones with only a few changes.

Hmm, I guess that they are having problems in that area. I remember when the company first started producing them, and the W211 was available as an option. Oh well.

since this is posted in a w211 forum, and all w211 cars are MOST based, then the MIKBOX will NOT work on a w211 car so there is no point looking there. Your 2 options are MHI or UHI. Do a search on both. Mbenznl can do either.

I've happily bought phones from eBay before, but not for my W211. Be careful with the eBay phones. I have seen Motorola phones with normal (non-Mercedes-Benz) firmware, but with MB faceplates.

I'm not going to assert that you won't find an MB-compatible phone out there, but be certain that the insides match the outsides.
