Dumb bi-xenon headlight question. When the low beams (m)

are on, all that is engaged are the xenons. When the hi beams are engaged, however, the inner lights, which appear to be halogen and used for "Flash to pass" also turn on. Why? One would think that with bi-xenons such wouldn't be needed. Any ideas?
thanks-

Jim

Our cars bi Xeons are not what most people think it is, it still use the inner headlights for high beam - using halogen bulbs.

BiXenon only means that there is a diaphragm in your headlight, and when you turn on the hi beams, the diaphragm switches into a different configuration, thereby projecting more of the HID lights to the upper portion of the light pattern. The halogens are considered as AUXILLARY hi beams. It is explained clearly in your owner's manual.

I never fully understood that, thanks for the clarification. In the BMW's, the "diaphragm" provides the full high beam therefore no need for any "auxillary" halogens.

different concept of bi-xenons. With BMW, the halogens were only used for flash to pass.

The only reason for the inner halogen lights is for flashing to pass when the low beams aren't on. You will still hear the solenoids moving when you flash the high beams when the low beams are off.

The reason for that is xenons aren't instant on and off like halogens can be.
