Angry Just broke down again today.

My 03' w211 broke down again today for the malfuction of fuel pump, this is the 2nd time that the fuel pump was dead within 10 months . I was like a fool in the middle of the downtown street waiting for help from dealer!!
This is the worst car I have ever owned in my entire life!! A MB will definitely NOT my next choice if I get rid of this junk when the warrantee is expired!!

Sorry to hear it.. what are the lemon laws in your country? 2 times in 10 months isn't enough here, but if it happens a third time... you surely would have a case.

I've been buying cars for a long, long time. In every case where I bought the first year of a new model, I regretted it. My 2004 E320 has been perfect for nearly a year.

I had my car do the same thing to me except I dont think it was the fuel pump. it was the part that sparks the ignition whatever the hell that thing is called.

I had my 03' E320 replaced a new fuel-pump just two months ago too. Recently the passenger side SRS warning light came on once a while when my wife sat on the front seat, but sometimes not. I believed the front passenger seat's SRS sensor will break down soon.

From: Edmonds... good bye SD
i had a ML320, had to be towed to the dealer 3 times before they figured out it was the fuel pump....

each time it got to the dealer, it started back up. And kept telling me my fuel cap was not on tight enough.. HA!

Dear BudC,

I won't buy the 1st year model of a new model , either .
I think a 03' model is the 2nd year after MB launched W211 in 2002. But it still lets me down!!

B.Rgds.,
Steven

The 2003 model year is the first year, even though it was released in the 2002 calendar year. The 2002 Model year is the last of the W210.

I have long ago given up on trying to figure what year we are actually talking about.

It is quite common now to read of folks getting their 2006 car next month???

The fuel pump is not a commonly reported defect on the 211, although the only big importer of this specific model is the US. At a guess I would suggest the earliest produced 211 petrol 320's have exactly the same fuel pump as the very latest models (before they were replaced by the 350)

This is no consolation to someone that evidently has had two declared defective??

I wonder if it really is the pump???

Intermittant faults are clearly the worst to diagnose, but if the vehicle is still under warranty I would not be very happy if my complaint was ignored though. In my opinion the suspect part\parts should be replaced.

A lot of that (in the US of course) goes back to Congressional mandates on fuel economy. They calculate something called the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE), and if the company score is too low, they get fined. CAFE is calculated by model year, and it turns out "model year" is not a well-defined term. Pretty much everyone who isn't focused on wheezy little four-bangers are guaranteed to get poor CAFE scores. (As I understand it, diesels do not contribute to CAFE numbers either way.)

Back when Dodge Ram was the hot new thing, sometime around 98 as I recall, the model year only lasted into mid-March before they switched to the next year. You could buy the "next" year model in March...

Just picked up the car today, dealer has replaced the fuel pump and updated the softewares .

May God bless all of MB owners ( especially the NEW model owners) to stay away from breaking down on the street again!!
