E55 Brakes on a E500??

Interested in putting on the E55 AMG cross drilled brakes and rotors on my E500. Has anyone done this? Results? Any advise on where to get these parts cheap?

I guess I will need the rotors, calipers, pads, and brake lines. My mechanic will install the parts. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the E55 and the E500 have different wheel sizes? If so, are you sure the new brakes and rotors will clear the wheels you have? Lastly, what about the spare tire. If you upgrade the brakes and rotos to a bigger size, the spare may not fit anymore.

I don't think we have spare tires anymore. My 2003 E-Class has a tire repair kit with some sort of pump and fluid to seal the hole.

You can replace both the calipers and the rotors on your E500 with the ones from the E55. However, you would need to upgrade your wheels to 18s in order to clear the massive 8-piston front caliper. As discussed previously, this upgrade is mostly for looks only.

The clearance issue is not a problem. I have 20" wheels on the car. It looks like all of you guys are not too thrilled with the idea. No performance advantages going with the E55 AMG brakes?

This would be incredibly expensive. If you do get it done, let me know the cost. I could see if being around 5-10 thousand, not including the wheels...

Actually, the cost to replace the brakes are not that bad, say around 3K for parts alone. The installation is easy too since it's just bolt on parts anyways.

droppedW211: I would do it just for the looks and am planning to do it. If you are interested in performance gain, consider the new EVOSPORT drilled / slotted 2-piece brake disc upgrade. At least those have correct cooling slots, unlike the stock AMG rotors where one side the cooling slots are installed in reverse, plus they are almost 100lbs (total) lighter than stock rotors. Lower unsprung weight = better performance

Do you have a link for the rotors? It appears they have them for W210 not W211.

Are you absolutely, positively, sure that your friendly mechanic can swap the brakes that came with your car, for brake parts that didn't, without compromising braking perfomance in some way?

Whether you should spend thousands of dollars to change the look of your brakes is your business - unless a failure of that critical system causes an accident. Then it's not just your business any more.

Go lecture the W203 owners that have swapped C32 AMG front brakes first..... (edit: and how about those that have BBK?)

The parts are direct swap and in ROW those brakes are offered as factory AMG upgrades. In the US of A, any lawyer can sue anything they want, no matter what.

Give Sander at TWS a call: http://www.thewheelsupply.com/index.jsp

I know they sell these at good price. They also have customers who replaced E55 brakes with bigger Brembo brakes and you might be able to find some used ones cheap.

Instead of getting the E55 brake setup, why don't you get the Brembo brake kit. Its probably better than the E55 setup, since the bremo's will be made for the E500, instead of trying to get an E55 setup to fit on an E500. You'll most likely end up paying less for these aftermarket brakes versus paying a dealer to buy the E55 brake set.

BTW, "dropped" you mentioned that you are rolling on 20"s. I am considering putting 20's on my E500 as well, what kind of wheels are you on? Do you have any issue of rubbing or any other problems?

I have the Iforged rims. No rubbing problems. You need to shave the bolts on the control arm though.

Its Been Done

I Did The Wifes 06 W211 Installed the AMG E55 Brakes ...on the front the spindles must be changed or remove them and drill the caliper mounting holes as the NON AMG Cars do NOT have the correct size holes in the spindles for the AMG Caliper bolts...The Bolts have a LARGER DIA Shoulder on them

Btw I Will Be selling the LARGE Front Brakes Calipers/rotors/pads with 7K on them (AMG) to Install a set of the 030 LARGER front AMG Brakes on the wifes car PM If Interested

Yes I Did The Work myself...Its Not that hard..With The Correct Tools!
One Can bleed the brakes without using the star....Just cycle the sbc pump...
Open a door or pump the brake pedal to cycle the pump....Used OE MB Brake fluid

I Checked for any codes and None were found

Just so everyone is aware.

DTB P-B-42.46/46c SBC Bleeding Procedure AUG05

If the brake system has been opened, then the brakes must be bled and checked for air using STAR Diagnosis “Bleed Brake System” and “Inspect Brake System for Air” functions before brake system is activated again. Failure to do so can lead to malfunctions of the brake system. The specialized brake bleeding procedure of the SBC system requires that specific Service Equipment and/or Special Tools be used in order to effectively bleed the SBC system.
