Parking sensors

I did not get the parktronic like in my previous car and regret it. I've become so dependent on it. Does anyone know if and how much it would cost to get aftermarket sensors?

that makes two of us, I looked into it... $1800, and doesn't AT ALL integrate into the car like the stock version.

This was one option I was aware of that I wasn't getting, but in the Volvo I have we needed it since the car was tall, but I didn't figure I needed it in this Well, wrong! The problem is you get reliant on having it, than you switch to a car without it and you find your self 2" from a light pole as you back out cause you forgot you didn't have it!

I like that deal... where will he install it? And you say all factory parts/install? Bumpers, wood tranny shift console on/off buttons, and displays? I want in on this deal.. I'm in Phoenix, AZ.

I am glad I got the parktronic, did not think I wanted it, but the car I purchased had it as an option, very useful parking tool!

This is probably the way i will go...

50 bucks for the entire kit. I am also considering the ones that just "BEEP" when you get too close (30 bucks). My company vehicle is a Navigator, it only beeps with no display seems good eonough for me.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BACKU...QQcmdZViewItem

Comes in several colors to match bumper. I wonder if you can get the Color Coded Strips from MbenzNL and if they will work?

must admit 50 bucks plus S&H is a inexpensive mod.

I get along fine without a lot of options my car doesn't have (like M-B's lame first-generation navigation system, or inflating seats) but Parktronic seems like something really useful. The plastic-coated so-called "bumpers" that cars have now, have zero resistance to dings and scrapes. Even the slightest contact with a protruding object will cause visible damage, so I'm really paranoid about parallel parking or even parking in a space head-on to a wall. Got two questions about Parktronic, though.

1. Is the intensity of the proximity warning related to just your distance from an object, or does it depend upon the size of the object as well as its distance? The audio of the Flash demo of Parktronic on the M-B web site is garbled in spots, but it seems to say that the system activates at 4' distance and goes into high alert (beep-beep) at 10" distance, whether the object is a toy wagon or another car.

2. Does Parktronic warn only of hard objects, like a car or a wall, or does it also warn of soft objects, like a pet or a child? (If you don't know the answer to this one, please don't feel that you have to experiment to find out)

Mercedes all the way!
esport, the alignment of your parktronic sensors may be off. try n c if anything is loose. i had this prob after my friend collided with a van with my car. a bit of adjustment, n some superglue, fixed it =)

dwp, not sure regarding distance and size -- as far as i know it's only based on distance. also, yes, it does beep on soft objects: i know it beeps whenever there are tree leaves near where i park.

Had the same problem a while back. It steadily got worse as time went on. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced it with no questions. They said that it was a known problem.

Sam,

We are getting quite some mails from AZ people in our mailbox lately. If there is enough interest, Steve could go to Phoenix during one of his US trips...

it beeps for soft objects as well (steelwire fence...bushes...single small branches...)

all parts are original mercedes and after the install is finished it will look like the option came with the car from factory...the exact price depends on the option the car has to begin with and the color of the car.

the front sensors do fail every now and then...this is mainly caused by stone (rock) chips...or by the license plate frame - but that is not likely on most US spec cars.

Well Steve, and BigSIS.. Put me in for a retro-fit in Phoenix, AZ.. it's only a 4-hr drive from LA, so make sure you stop by here. I can justify about $3000 for it.. my car is plat blue, and the build date is 3/05.. No switches are on my shifter area if that helps.

click on the link below my sig to see pics.

Sam,

If it's only a 4 hr drive to LA, you could also consider driving down there... As Steve visits LA on a regular base, and will only come to AZ if his services are 'needed' there. And IF he goes to AZ, it will be by plane, not by car.

greetingz,

My only angst is the 750 or so round trip miles on the car, as I'm trying to keep my milage under 10000/yr on this one.

If you get at least how many AZ deals/installs will it be worth your time/money to come out?

I know America West and South West both fly out here for very cheap (less than $150 each way).

Curious, how much of the installation is labor and how much are the parts? or more over, how much are the parts (plat blue car)?

Well... Steve did an install in a W211 in El Paso. Only one customer, only one car - and the customer was willing to pay for the flight tickets. So: we only need one customer and one car at least, as long as that customer is willing to pay for the flight ticket.

We recently received about 4 or 5 different quote requests from people in AZ. Maybe you could ask around on this forum, and find out if there are more AZ people who want Steve to come over. Travel expenses can be shared then, and Steve will be able to say that he saw some more areas in the US.

I am not the one who orders the parts - that's Steve's 'department', so I really can't say what is for parts and what is for labor... sorry, but my brother only gives me a full price.

greetingz,

BigSis

No problem BigSis.. just so I know... PriveMessage me the price in US $, and method of payment for this on a Plat blue car like mine. Using only new parts of course, and let me know if I get to keep my parts for re-sale in that price.

I will look around for other AZ member who are willing to spread cost of travel.

Also, will he need a place to work? or can he work out of our garage?

as we mainly SELL parts and as I travel a fair bit - I have no desire in taking anybody's parts - so the replaced parts will all be yours.

I can work from your garage when/if I come over to do the install - no need to do that in a professional shop.

If you don't mind, we quote all prices per email: we save the mails in which we quoted prices, for our reference... If I PM-ed you (which I can't do anymore, as I disabled that function), I wouldn't have any documentation myself.

You can reach us through Info@MBenzNL.com, or Sales@MBenzNL.com. Thanks.

greetingz,

BigSis

PS: thanks for your offer to let Steve use your garage in case he can make it to AZ!
