It could get expensive I imagine since you'll have to buy all new seats.. the Leather is probably $2000+ in parts alone.

Ask Steve (MBenzNL)..

Errr ...... a new petrol tank as well. Much easier to do in a C-Class since the tank is located under the rear seat.

Kinda sad that it's even an option on a car that costs this much. I wish MBZ would just add $1500 or so to their base prices and just get away from optional "basics" like Split rear seats, Premium Sound, etc for a lux car.

why? On the E55 the split folding seats aren't even an available option as the plate in between of trunk and passenger compartment is part of the stiffness of the body...

The really galling thing about the optional folding rear seat on (non-AMG) W211s is that the feature is standard on any number of $10,000-$15,000 economy cars. It's the sense of being nickle-and-dimed by a premium-priced car that really bothers me, even more than not having a feature that adds a lot to the usefulness of the car.

I would add a sunroof/moonroof, CD changer, heated seats and satellite radio to the list of features (folding rear seat and premium audio) that should be standard on a W211, even if it adds a few thousand to the price. As it is, not only is the base price of a W211 higher than its Japanese competition, but the higher price comes with an asterisk, as in: "*Base price does not include optional equipment that is standard on Japanese competition" - and that asterisk surely leaves a bad taste with a lot of potential buyers. Making satellite radio standard would add very little to DCX' cost of production and would be a good selling point as well as profitable for them.

We are singing from the same sheet music you and I.. I would happily take the $51700 base price of a CDI and turn it into $53000 to have all of that... or pay another $3000-$4000 for Parktronic, Premium Sound, and full Leather, DVD Nav, and Xenons.. It should all be in the "base price" If you can swing $53K for a car, you can swing $58K.. not the end of the world. But I had to learn the hard way that many of these lux car "basics" were indeed options as it never occurred to me that a $55+ sticker MB would have vinyl seats! Even the damn salesman kept calling them "leather inserts" which lead me to think it was all leather. Turns out I have two front seats with leather surfaces and the rest of this $55K car is vinyl! Good vinyl, mind you.. but..

MBUSA needs a management team change IMHO. MB makes great cars, it's not their fault that their American Division is being run by ex-Chrysler guys (read it in WSJ a while back)..
