MY MB WAS LEMON'D
Is this asking too much?

I'm scheduled for service (again) for my on going A/C shutting down by its self issue......this will be my fourth attempt to fix this. I would like to have the dealership detail my car completely.....

Is this asking too much, for a full detail? I have been with out A/C on and off for 2 weeks now... and can use a detail at this time.

not only no... but HECK NO.. And make sure they do it right, not with a bottle of Armorall and a dirty sponge!! Demand a lot of your MB dealer, and you'll get a lot. I looked into dealership opportunities for my family a little while back, and an MB dealer is a cash cow... they make a bundle, and they do it because they have an effective monopoly (market share wise).. But MBUSA will revoke their dealership if they don't make happy customers!

I know an MB dealer principle and he is not getting rich from it. I don't know where you got that idea. Fletcher Jones and other high volume dealerships make a lot of money, but the rest do not. You could not touch FJ's franchise, even with multiple millions. What dealership where you considering buying?

The info on what dealer is confidential unfortunately since they are still in negotioations with a possible buyer.. but It's a major market dealership with a 4 year old facility and 30 years of goodwill. The gross cap cost was $36M, and the NOI was 5M.. not bad when you're lucky to find commercial property these days for a 7% cap these days and 35% down required to get a decent rate. They were selling due to death of the owner, and the family disputing the division of the asset.

If an MB dealer is loosing money or not making a lot of it, they're mismanaged.. Ask your friend if he'd like to sell his stake (if he's majority). I'd love to talk to him on behalf of my organization.

I am sure he could extract more money from the investment, I guess, but that is not his MO. He is not out to screw people! As it stands right now, he is more interested in having quality people working for him than extracting more profit. He has a small dealership but it is top flight, a highly recommened GM, 2 Factory trained Master Techs, dedicated SRs, and HAPPY customers. Don't get me wrong, he makes money, only a fool makes an investment under the pretences of not making any ROI.

I guess my point here is that not all MB dealerships are bad, only some. And those dealerships get shut down by the Factory, eventually. Some try to screw the Factory on warranty claims, that is the quickest way to get shut down!

Very true... MB doesn't give away dealerships lightly.. and if you go to buy one, they look at you very closely. This is why (IF you have the price for entry) it's a license to print money!

For the less scrupulous among us, yes. I trust that you will operate your dealership well if you have the opportunity to do so.

I'm sure 99% of them do.. and the 1% who don't will be shooting themselves in the foot!
