S-class tail-lights for the E-class...

Anybody seen these before? One thing I've never been too crazy about are the 2 rib design of the W211 tail-lights. I've always like the S-class 4-rib tail-light design better. Someone is selling these on Ebay. They're even LED! They can't be OEM, I wonder who makes them. Anyone have these on your car? Any pics?

Why not just ask the seller?

Did a search; See some W203 owners with something like this. I have a feeling they are made by a company called "Eagle-eye" or something. Doesn't sound too appealing. I saw 1 picture of them on a W211 but I wanted to see more pics on/off and some feedback/advice from an actual owner.

These tail lights are all made in Taiwan. One of the car lighting manufacture made these lights and certainly they are not original equipment from M.B.
Just for ppl who want to look different. They also make LED tail lights for the old E-Class W210.

Maxzone makes them... an easy search to find. Took 3 minutes... the guy on eBay might have an exclusive for a while.

Hey Benzo the upgrade you did was it OEM or by that same aftermarket company? I know it's a great look on the S-class but how does it fare on the E-class? I would like to think it would give the car a more upscale look. Barry, that site is not too useful....didn't see the tail-lights there. That looks like that's a company called DEPO that makes a lot of other lenses for cars (like my BMW). I don't think they sell much MB stuff. The lights in that Ebay link show a box in the background (with my keen eye it says "EagleEye"). The guy on Ebay has OBVIOUSLY overpriced them because he seems to be the only one selling them. They can't be worth more than $300 because they aren't OEM.

Aftermarket... yeah I seen this with the S aftermarket.. they will come down 100 bucks when others get them also... Those LED are hot and they will look 10 times better than what you have..If you do not like them you can always put your old one's back on, but I highly doubt it ! Post your old and new picts if you do it.. I think when you see the new ones on your ride you will be pissed you did not do it earlier.. Now go get'em

The lights are not OEM. If a body shop put in non OEM lights (on an American Sedan) you probably wouldn't know the difference anyway as long as they weren't intentionally different looking like those tail lights are. In the trade they're called "LKQ" as in "Like Kind and Quality" to the USED ones that were being replaced on the damaged car. very often body shops will use non OEM where the differences in body panel adjustment time (to make things fit like OEM does) arent substantial. A composite headlight assembly is usually plug n play, and a good place for them to save money.

Does installing the LED's require programing the car's computer with Star-Diag?

I seem to recall reading a post before where that was the case.

Also, are these "made in Taiwan" lights well made? like the MB lights?

If you have a body shop do repairs on your car covered by insurance they almost always are doin it with "LKQ". In certain cases where you are not at fault you can demand OEM. (that's what I'd fight for EVERYTIME). From 1 foot away you'll never tell the difference. It's really the seals (low quality brittle rubber that dosen't fit well, leaks and isn't complete), more tendency to fade with age, uneveness of the surfaces, and the real difference can be seen on the back....An OEM lens will always be built more sturdy and wiring connections of higher quality. American cars have plenty of parts from American suppliers and hence closer to OEM quality. Japaneese and European cars are a different story. Except for some high quality German companies that put out TUV approved stuff, most of the aftermarket is dominated by Asian companies....the same company that puts out all those cheapo Alteezas and ricey lights. Only a few put out decent quality the rest are notoriously crudely made.

I did some research on this "EagleEye" company. They put out a set of LED tail-lights for the W220. At 1st glance it seems impressive and an original, unique look on the car. But someone posted a pic of the BACK of the housing and it looked so cheaply built. Also when the brakes are pressed the output of the LEDs were so dismal and downright dangerous! They were not of adequate mcd's. When I checked out the newer S-class style LED made for the W203 it looked more promising. People were saying they were better built, fit was close to OEM and the LEDs seemed to perform adequate (though still not as well as OEM MB of course.) Looking at the pics of the Ebay listing I'm assuming the build was more akin that W203 style and if anyone out there has experience with the W211 version they'd know how good they really are. Benzo looks like you want me to get em 1st so I can be the guinea pig...HAHAHA OK man I'll make you deal; I know I have my old tail-lights if I don't like them, but here's a better question....if I don't like em, how about you buy them off of me.

Just for the record my W220 aftermarket tail lights are screaming bright, more so than OEM original, no b.s.

I'm with you, and S should look like an S, and an E like an E.

Right, it's all about taste and being a bit different. Most people actually think MB tail-lights all look too similar. Enthusaists will know the difference. It's just that I think the S's looks the best and the CLKs don't look to appealing. E-class's are OK. I think they'd be better 4 ribbed. Not to make it "look" like an S-class or anything but to generally improve the looks of the car by spending only a couple hundred bucks. To also drive a car that looks unlike 99% of the other unoriginal E-classes I see every day....and yeah of course, if I had another $30k to kill I would get the S500, I'll just have to wait for that.

$399+ $50 shipping seems high. I know of a vendor that is considering carrying these. He said he'll price them at $299 + $40 shipping within the 48 states. If you can wait...I'm sure you can get a better prince once other vendors start to carry them.
