Mercedes-Benz factory ride height adjustment shims
This is from the H&R website:
Mercedes-Benz cars ride height may vary due to vehicle options and Mercedes-Benz factory ride height adjustment shims. This original-MB-Part is a rubber shim perch, which is located on the top of the spring. These shims vary in thickness from 8 to 23mm.
Question: What is thikness of the factory installed shims on my W211, no airmatic, no sport package. I figure that if its closer to 23mm then I have 15mm to play with.
Thanks!

Shim thickness
I have been told that the shim thickness is determined by the color coding on the springs. You should be able to see several colored dots on the springs. Record the colors and sequence and ask your dealer if they can correlate it to the shim thickness for your car. Also, I would not be surprised if the suspension part BOM is tied to your VIN.

2003 W211 E240
the original shim in my E240 Elgence is 13mm. I have changed my suspension to Biltien suspension kit which came with H&R spring and it seems to lower for me. Therefore I changed spring shim to 17mm and it looks perfect .
the part no are following:
A211 325 01 84 5 mm
A211 325 02 84 9 mm
A211 325 03 84 13 mm (original)
A211 325 04 84 17 mm (currectly I play with)
A211 325 05 84 21 mm
Moreover, even I changed from 13mm to 17mm wich only jyst 4mm difference
however after aligement it is about 8mm higher

For example my car is 192 points and a C32 is about 220. So even if I get C32 springs and put them on my car then my car is far too light for that spring rebound.
In terms of shim then there are 2 types for normal and sports package / avantgarde. The AMG ones are the same as sports package.
The thickness is reliant on the factory calculation but it will always be too high for someone who wants a lowered ride. So you will most likely need the 8mm version.
