Corrosion on wheels, under warranty?

Recently I took my car to the dealer for some electronics issues( what else? ) and I also told them about some blemish on my wheels that are caused by corrosion. Now this car has never seen snow so I know it is not due to the salt, and I wash the car myself unless it is freezing outside. The dealer told me the wheels are caused by, most likely, carwash, and it is not covered under the warranty. I think it should be covered under the warranty. Doe anyone has similar problem with the wheels?

i believe after prolonged exposure to break dust etc.. the wheels will corrode. I don't think this is covered as it is generally considered a wear item incident. my dealership actually replaced my good rims with a bent rim 6 mos. ago and i am still trying to get them to rectify the situation. lol

Brake Dust is not at all corrosive. Will not damage the wheel surface. Some carwashes use very caustic cleaners to do the wheels. That may be the problem. However I have never seen this on my 211 or any other MB I have owned. I say this and I use my cars where lots of salt is used on the roads in the winter.

If they are chrome you are SOL even if the dealer sold them to you and installed them. At the local dealerships around here, there is a little disclaimer on the bottom of the display and on the brochure that says corrosion is not covered.

The rims on my previous ML 320 began to corrode shortly before the warranty expired. My dealer replaced all four rims under warranty and told me the lug bolts looked a little corroded so he replaced all those as well. He never made up any BS about the carwash or even questioned me. I would think any other dealer would do the same.

it's a dealer call issue.. I am sure if you pressed it they would replace them.

Thanks for the reply. I will push my dealer on this, if not, I will try another dealer nearby.

Same problem here - dealer replaced without any questions... 2003 W211. Wheels looked like they had been through a war. It snows here, so it may have been the salt.

If these are the original wheels and it is corrosion alone it is my opinion that you’re entitled to replacement wheels under warranty. If the dealership service manager disagrees request to speak with the MBUSA Service & Parts Manager (SPOM) who handles your area.

ML 320 CDI
I had all my wheels replaced under warranty for tiny little blemishes. The dealer couldn't find the blemishes as they were so small so I had to point them out. They replaced them straight away.
