E-class to CLS?

Somebody help me! It started out with a glance, then a stare, and now I can't stop looking at the beautiful CLS in the showroom window. Someone please talk me out of this madness! Konigstiger, this is partially your fault.

If you're tall, keep repeating "2 inches LESS headroom". If that doesn't help, repeat: "I've finally gotten rid of most of the bugs in my E". As a last resort remind yourself that its in its 1st year of production & you have to give MB's new boss at least a year to re-educate the boys in Germany that they are not shipping the best product they are capable of... That should do it.

Hey Barry not for nothing go peddle your glasses, sell carpeting, or curtain material or whatever it is that you do out there on the island.

Sorry guys, I just had to.

I'm in the same boat. Was at the dealer this morning picking up my E and saw this CLS500 in Pewter rollin on AMG rims. Pictures do not capture the styling cues of this beautiful car!

Talking 'But Then Again'

I must say what a beautiful and unique car the Mercedes-Benz CLS really is. A friend has one, the front seats are really comfy, and headroom is good, but the back is kinda tight, needs some kinda getting used too, but then again its a coupe with 4 drs. I really love this car, esp the AMG model. But then again its not as roomy as the E-class, and not a practical family sedan, but then again its unique. I would be honoured to own such a car, and it will stand out from other cars on the road.

Cyclerider, I feel the same way. I also remember reading an article in autoweek on the CLS 500 where they mentioned that we may also get a diesel in the CLS. Now, wouldn't that be interesting ?

I was blown away by the CLS when I first saw it, it looked incredible.

With time however, I like it a lot less. I saw a deep blue CLS 55 AMG at the dealership yest. (MB Manhattan for those who care) and found myself not really wanting the car....

At first glance I thought it looked like a Buick Riviera or Oldmobile Aurora! Don't kill me! I am just giving my first impression .

It has definitely started to grow on me, but I will not be buying anything that is not a Diesel in the future. Now, if they make a CLS 400 CDI I would have a real problem!

It has been snowing here for a while now. I already have the snow wheels and tires on both my cars now. We just had 7 inches of new snow at the Breckenridge ski resort! The ski racks are coming out next. However, I don't think it had anything to do with my vision when I saw the new CLS.

It is kind of growing on me. Make it a diesel and I might think about it. I am still an E kind of guy.

The CLS is a bit of a waste of car (flame suit on). If its styling you want, it has (except the front headlights.. alien). The back of the E is a little cramped. The back of the CLS is REDICULOUS. I literally could not get in, even with front seat moved up. Forget headroom. The seats are nicer, more coushin. the interior is not as nice and balanced like the E. No wood on the doors. No black wood, white gauges. Exhaust sound is 10x better tho. You really might as well get a 2 door, or 2 seater for that matter. It think as time wears on, the car will lose its novelty. Kinda like the New Beatle. Just not usefull, only (subjective) style points.

E-CLASS
YTD 2005 = 40,165; YTD 2004 = 46,453; YTD 2003 = 21,747
108,365

CLS-CLASS
YTD 2005 = 12,654

With more than 100,000 Es on the road (50,000 of them carpeting Scottsdale) one of the things I enjoy is the fact that there are (and will be) far less CLSs on the road during my ownership. By ’08 I’ll be in a 212 or 221. As far as the car itself, I can sum it up in one word FABULOUS - in, out, and all around!

I agree, here in Los Angeles and Orange County, the E-class are on every corner. Although the CLS are catching up, but not nearly a close to the E.

I saw my first CLS on the road and thought I was approaching a Buick with extra chrome on the back. I have tried to not dislike the CLS but it does not have enough room in either the front seat or the back for us. My wife is even more adamant about her dislike of the looks. The Star magazine, MBCA, design appraisal gave the ultimate insult by saying "the undercut character line is reminiscent of a bangled BMW or a Hyundai..... There are few clues that this is a Mercedes-Benz - not the latest Toyota. ... Yet there's nothing really new or innnovative about this ****pit unless one counts the fact that its outside visibility - as a result of the claustrophobia-inducing side windows- is surely worst in class. This is an interior that Buick would be proud to call its own".

Damn it! Just when I thought I made a sound decision. Well now I have no alternative but to sell. I hate it when that happens. Thanks Jimmy for opening my eyes.

No not really, Jim and I normally see eye to eye. For some reason I couldn’t get the smilies to work this time around.
