Anyone in California want a CDI?

I am considering a new '06 CDI, and would love to find a good home for our baby in our neighbor state to the south. The car currently has just over 7,000 miles and is very well equipped (see signature below).

Ok, low miles, well equipped, nice colors, 06 is identical to 05 for the CDI, it begs the question why?

The '06 has several more options that we wanted but couldn't find at the time we got the '05.

begs a different question of me ... how did you get it (or the new one) in the 1st place? I'm in NY, which has the same or similar air restrictions as CA, and I'm not allowed to buy a diesel...

I live in Oregon, where I purchased the car new. Californians are allowed to register used CDI's after they are 6 months old and have 7,500 miles on them.

Me too...

I would love to get European Delivery on a 2006 Designo Grey/Charcoal interior or Bordeaux red/charcoal interior CDI, with 17" wheels and bi-xenon active lamps, fully loaded.

My CDI is Pewter/Ash, sunroof and heated seats, shades in rear doors and rear window.

My CDI is 13K "road-trip!" miles, not a single scratch, rock chip, or swirl mark. Garaged to the point of obsession, rain clouds = other vehicles driven. NEVER driven to work, they don't even know I own a benz. Work thinks I drive a 1987 Bronco and 1989 Suburban....LOL!

Car has been in rain twice, total sun exposure about 10 hours (parked, not counting driving hours). Has never seen a snowflake or road salt. Brake dust kept off wheels, inside and out.

Mudflaps installed at time of delivery. Car is perfect, without exception.

Make me an offer, I'll drive it to U.

No issues, no accidents, etc.

If you have the same restrictions as CA, you buy it used.

I thought that too... but here's what I was told. New or used, you'd still be subject to the emissions requirements of that =year= car -- i.e. a 2005 -- for noxious gases and particulates ... which it would not pass.

Please pardon my ignorance, but if there is a different story, I'd love to know -- how would simply buying it used negate the need for it to pass emissions requirments for that year car?

thanx

I have no knowledge of the laws of New York State. California DOES allow used CDI's to be legally owned and registered, hence the title of this thread. It's what is known as a "loophole", and saavy Californians can use it to enjoy 37 MPG and 369 foot pounds of torque.

There is NO time restriction, only the mileage restriction.

How much is your asking price?

I really haven't decided on an asking price. I am open to offers.

NY and CA have the same emission laws. ...so that's why I'm ask'n (please indulge me, and thank you for your time )

if you own it for more then 1 year, and have to take it in for inspection, how does it pass the emissions test?

(and lord knows I want 37mpg ... especially after with only 13.5mpg from my daily driver, my Jeep; try'n to keep the miles down on the c43/55 )

California has different emission laws for vehicles that were originally sold in other states and then registered in California as "used". Once they are legally registered in CA, then they are allowed to stay in CA. This is the California "loophole".

You should check with New York State and see if any such loopholes exist.

There is a loophole just like that too.

I've even read things such as, if your car becomes disabled and cannot be repaired in another state, you are permitted to buy a diesel vehicle out of state and register it in NY. (so buy a junker that can barely get you over the boarder to Penn, and there ya go, brand new CDI ... but I digress)

It's just I heared supplamentary info that it would still be inspected according to the emission requirements for the year of that vehicle, so it wouldn't pass inspection. ...but as you say, there are different emission laws for used vehicles, which I haven't heard about before. Thanx very much!

So are you going for European delivery with your 2006?

Hmmm..... 06 = aluminum block vs 05 steel block.
Some would argue the fact that the new engine could be inferior.... Personally, I have no clue but I like the idea of steel.
Can anyone say guinna pig????

I absolutely agree with you 100%. The aluminum V6 will not be in the USA until model year 2007. I would never give up my iron block I6 diesel to be a V6 guinea pig.

Giving Up Drive Dynamic Seats?

Your car has full leather also, with the drive dynamic seats. About the only thing you don't have is Sirius, which your car is wired for. Why do you REALLY want to get rid of it? Once you tell us, you will feel better. Didn't have it in New Orleans, did you? Just kidding. And by the way, make sure you see Bordeaux red in daylight. There are some people that do not like it.

No, the car has not been underwater in Louisiana! LMAO!

The two things that we really wanted were Keyless Go and Parktronic. Good point about the Drive Dynamic seats. I will miss them on long trips (massage feature).

You should be able to get AT LEAST $50k for that car to a California buyer. I would thow it on autotrader for $55k and see what happens. What was the original MSRP...around $57k? I had to go as far as Pennsylvania to get our dizzel.

As far as bringing one into CA, the only stipulation is that the car has 7500+ miles at the time of sale. When I found mine it only had 6600 miles, but the seller was gracious enough to put the extra 900 miles on prior to my purchase.

I would do the same, but to find a car with Parktronic is almost impossible.

I have a dream car for a CA buyer.... NEVER been rained on, always in the garage, and had high quality wax on it from day one. Interior is showroom condition.

I'd let it go for what I have sank into it.... not a dollar less. And I'd only do it to get a 2006, as the 2007 is going to have the carp V6

Original MSRP was $57,805, and I have 7,061 miles on it. I am 195 miles north of the California border on I-5. I have noticed that most of the used CDI's are back East, and not too many out here on the West Coast.

I could part with it for $55K, but for much less I would probably just keep it.

There are plenty on the west coast, if you include arizona & nevada. But very few (if any) have as much equipment as yours does. If you want $55k, throw it on autotrader for $57k obo. In my experiences I have found that people care more about getting a discount off the asking price than the actual selling price.

I'd let it go for what I have sank into it.... not a dollar less.
And what would that number be? It took me months to find a dizzel with all the goodies...and then I had to fly out (>$400) and have the car trucked back ($1000).

I wouldn't call it a crap v6 until it actually does prove to be crap. MBZ has always built the best diesel engines, and I doubt they will drop the ball on this one. I expect the new engine will surpass the current inline-6 in power & efficiency, while remaining bulletproof as in the past. That being said, I would still much rather have the smoothness & sound of an inline...
