Rear License plate

Can someone tell me what size screw is supposed to be in the rear license plate holder? When I was washing my car I noticed the holder was only being held by ONE screw.

It looked like a very short #10 metal/wood screw so I went and bought a few at home depot and they pushed right into the hole. I didn't want to get an oversized metal screw and rip into the body but it almost looks like thats what's supposed to happen. When I look in the holes, I don't see any threads, just painted white and there is nothing inside like a nylon washer to catch the screw.

Can anyone assist???

Don't know the size...

I don't know the size, but I would take the screw to home depot and have them match it. You need to make sure you have the right size and thread, or you will strip the threads. Bring a screwdriver to Home Depot and take it out there... I'm sure they have the size you need.

Or... Just bring it back to the dealer... they should take care of it.

Good luck!

Sounds about right.... I have the same screws in my ride (4 ea) and hold just fine. If your gromets are stripped, then just buy the next size larger screw.

Just go to the dealer....I needed the same screws and the dealer stocks them in most cases.

What I have done for the back plate--made my own L-shaped pull down handle with a piece of 1&1/2" scrap aluminum stock from a hardware store that has a machine shop which I drill to match plate and cover--is to bring the bolt and match it with a stainless metric machine screw.

ANY dealer will give you them at the parts counter at no charge. It is a METRIC screw. Some dealers have the screws that don't rust & some have the ones that rust. They also come with larger & smaller heads & in different lengths. They are very hard to find (by the piece) outside of the dealership.

Thanks for the advice. I'll swing by on Monday. I finally posted a couple quick pics I took and you'll notice the car has NO REAR PLATE!

Went in for my first 1-3k "check-up" and got the screws for the rear plate. They looked like very fine thread metric screws. What amazes me is that the car had two SHEET METAL SCREWS in there originally from when I purchased the car!!

Good thing it didn't strip the threads.

If it had stripped the inside threads, those parts are replaceable from inside the trunk.
