rain sensor wipers

I live in rainiy Seattle, my auto wiper speed is only one speed, same as the first option of regular speed. Is this a service issue or are others having this issue. I would rather have my option to regulate speed of wiper.

The first position on the blinker/wiper control should be the "rain sensor" setting. There is a chance that your sensor and the tips of the wipers that pass over it are dirty. If they are dirty then the system will always see the same amount of water (mixed with dirt) and wipe at the same speed.

Just in case, wipe the rain sensor with glass cleaner. The sensor is located in front of the center rear view mirror. From the front of the windshield you will see a dark area with little white bubbles, they are the infrared lights. After you clean the sensor area use a paper towel with glass cleaner and clean the last 4 inches of the wiper blades.

If after doing this the speed does not change, you need to schedule a service call. However, you need to see how many water drops are on the sensor area when this happens to make sure that the system is acting up. So far I have not read about problems with the sensor unless you had a windshield replacement by an untrained person.

Tell us if this helped,

Steve

I've had the rain sensor serviced twice by the MB dealer so far, and a sof right now, it still isn't working. I have the orig windshield, but for whatever reason, they don't like to activate by themselves, or stay "on" during rain. Time to take my car in for the 83rd time to get it fixed!

This thread reminded me of another thing that really irritated me about my W211. I'd rather have an manually adjustable intermittent setup.

Living in Seattle having wipers that work well is crucial.

My '03 sedan seems to work almost perfectly, and it is a feature I love, on a rare occasion when the rain is very light I assume it leaves a film and wipes too often, but in general is perfect and the light rain (mist might be more accurate) is understandable to me.

I just picked up an '04 wagon for my wife and was driving from NJ to CT in a real nasty mix last night and was not happy with the auto mode, it seemed to delay just a little to long so that my vision was obscured for a second due to glare between cycles. I'm going to ask to the dealer when I get back to PA if the sensitivity can be adjusted at all, I imagine it can.

Last night when driving I noticed that every time the blade went by until the next time it went by there was a annoying glare caused by the oncoming cars lights. So, it never went away..

Is there a particular cleaner that people use to get rid of this..?

I've had good luck using a claybar - then Stoners Glass cleaner then NXT Tech wax on my windshields.

Rain Sensors

I use "Invisible Glas" I believe it is a Stone Product. It works well. I also am sure to clean the wiper blades as I wash the car. I have no problems, just a few times I would pick slightly different speed seetings than it selects, but I find it useful to some degree. It actually is very useful in bad weather, but of little use in light or misty as it swipes as I said at different speeds or intervals than I would select.

If it consistantly only has one speed or totally is operating contrary to how it should, you may get it checked out.
