I think I must have read that wrong... but either way... using a can of spray paint seems to lack a bit of precision.

Here's how it's done. The light housings are first heated to 160 degrees. A turbine delivery system then heats the Acrylic tint solution to 160 degrees as well. The product is delivered very much like a combination of a lower temp Powder-Coating and high temp Gel-coating system. The finished product is a thin translucent black plastic coating that fuses to the translucent red plastic. This product will not split, crack or peel as observed in some low budget tint coatings. It can be done in different shades of darkness, but may not be legal in all states. Personally, I don't care if it's illegal because around here it is never enforced. Here is the Florida statute:
FS-316.234 Signal lamps and signal devices.
(1) Any vehicle may be equipped and, when required under this chapter, shall be equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red or amber light, visible from a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight, and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake, and which may but need not be incorporated with one or more other rear lamps. An object, material, or covering that alters the stop lamp's visibility from 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight may not be placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied over a stop lamp.
If anyone has a broken lens to contribute, please do so I can get my car done to allow the rest of you to decide if you like it or not.
