E Stands for Excellence
I had to drive a toyota camry for one month in place of my E ('04 W211). During this month I never even touched my E. After about a month of the camry I was so excited to drive my car again and only then did I appreciate how great it is. The noise insulation, comfort, power, handling, style, etc, etc... I came from a 2002 5 series and always compared my E to that and I completely forgot how much better this car is than the average car.
We all have our problems and this forum is a great place to vent but don't take for granted how great this car is!!! It took me weeks with a camry to realize this but I thought I would remind all of us E owners.

"E" stands for "Evanescent", as in "disappeared." I haven't seen my precious "E" since Tuesday 12/27, when it vanished into the custody of the Mercedes of Sacramento service department. It is there awaiting the arrival of a replacement wheel-speed sensor from Germany, there being no such replacement part on the continent of North America. The latest cheerful update from the service department is that the part got held up in customs and won't arrive until next Monday, at the earliest. That would be two weeks without our "E". Not that we are forced to walk; the dealership kindly substituted their "C" for our "E" for the duration. We are now learning the true meaning of "entry level."

I have to also agree that one of the things every E owner needs to do every so often is drive another car for a while, then drive the E again.
Since I am currently in the process of building a new home and I am in a small Town House, I have my cars in three separate garages. I usually like to drive my Audi around town and I end up leaving my E in the far garage for weeks at a time. Don't get me wrong, my Audi is an amazing car, but every time I get back in my E I truly appreciate all the things mentioned on the first post.
My E is silky smooth (even with more aggressive Blizzak snow tires), it pulls very evenly with no hint of any vibrations, it is incredibly quiet and is an incredible highway cruiser!
After I move into my new home I probably will also let the E sit for at least a few days at a time. I really like getting back into it every time!

I agree about driving other cars. While some others that I have driven are nice, I'm still more than happy to get back in my own car. This includes driving even other MB models, like the old ML and the C. I had to drive around in a Volvo S60 and a Chrysler 300 for some time, and boy, was I glad when that was over.

Last Camry I drove had so much torque steer it felt as if I should set right turn signal as a matter of course at stoplights. FWD sucks.

"E" stands for "E"xpect the car to be in the repair shop many times!
More than likely, you never malfunction issues with the Camry during that month.

EVERY TIME I travel on business and rent a car I come back as happy as this fellow that the E is waiting for me. Well put!

This is the most perfect car in most respects that I can conger up on my mind for under $60K.. Its amazingly solid, sturdy, heavy (yet nimble), swift, economical, stylish, fun to drive, impressive to look at, and impressive to be seen in..
what else can I say.. other than I wish the importer was a better outfit to represent such a great car.
BTW DWP: what's with the new Avitar? What the heck is that thing?

E stands for ENHANCER.
it totally enhances your personality, when i'm driving it around i feel like nothing can come between me and taking on the world. One vender at a time

In other news, after TWO WEEKS we finally got our E500 back from the shop today, the necessary part having arrived from Germany on Monday. My wife, whose daily ride it is, is just deeeelighted that she doesn't have to drive the "C" loaner any more. Since DC has sold -what? 100,000? 200,000? - W211s in North America since 2002, I still can't see why they can't stock a few wheel-speed sensors on this side of the Atlantic.

I would rather have to bring my car in for a repair every month of the year than drive a camry on a daily basis. After all, I could have purchased 3 of those sleepy cars for the price of my baby.

That being said... You know, they really shouldn't be "less relable". Thats the shame of it all. They can and have made great cars in the past & will again... its just that the Germans have been "slapped in the face" by reality this time, and it looks as if they are feeling the sting and doing something about it. I'm sure, for the first time, they have been subjected to a humbling experience, and don't want to live with the stigma.
MBUSA needs a kick in the crotch too. They got a little too fat & comfortable too... The new, younger MB buyer is very savvy, and demands to have it all. Prestige, Performance, and Perfection.

It is. But you wouldn't accept that a $6,000 Stereo, Plasma TV set needs frequent service, or Changes channels by itself sometimes, or freezes on only 1 channel, or require updates to its software, and accept that a 13 inch Kitchen use only Walmart Brand color TV will preform flawlessly month after month because it is "Appliance Grade".
It all goes back to the "6 P's":
"Proper Planning Prevents **** Poor Performance."
