Input on Wheels and Tires

Well time to do some spring shopping while dragging through the Winter in the NE. I'm looking to spruce up the E with a new set of wheels along with tires. I would like to put 18's with a good set of tires that will continue to give me the comfort touring ride. I think I have the wheels decided but wondering what all your opions are with them. Haven't started the tire search yet but would value any input with regards to a good set.

I've attached the wheels I am thinking about although not 100% just yet. Also anyone done business with the Wheel Exhange.? http://www.thewheelexchange.com/

Thanks in advance

not sure how the roads are in NE(new england?) area and not sure if this would have an effect but have you looked at a staggered set? I like it when the back wheels have a huge lip. i think it makes it look like you did your research on rims and a bit baller, even if you don't spend that much on them.

Thanks for the input Monstaloc.. I actually may go with the staggered look since these will be just summer wheels and tires. You right they do add a far better look to the rear. I was looking at these tires but can't find much info on them .. I do worry about the quality of the rims, but then again the stock rims are no prize.

How's the road up there in NH? The roads down here in Boston sucks. There're pot holes and crate holes every where on I-93 and I-95 (aka Rte 128). The turnpike is much better but once you get to exit ramps, the road sucks again. I'm so afraid that my 18" stockies will bend going over one of those......

With regards to your question, 18" in that style would look great on your W211. Have you considered ASA rims? They look identical to that one and it's sold by Tire Rack, a sponsor of the site, with great quality service. Also there is another brand called TSW Bremma which also look similar to those rims that you posted. A couple of people on the board have them. See this:

To me, wheels with the little holes around the rim (and there are lots of wheels like that) are just too "busy" and "fussy" in appearance. The W211 has strong but simple lines, and the wheels should complement those lines, not overpower them. A simpler design of the wheels would go better with your debadged look - cleaner and less cluttered. That's just me, though, and you have to go with whatever you like.

I drive M - F from New Hampsire to Waltham, 495, 93 and 95 and 495 is no prize lately either with all the damn construction going on the past 2 years. The roads around here continue to degrade although I must say, further up North 93N they are smooth as silk.

I didn't those rims on TireRack, guess I will have to look a bit further into there site. The wheels that are stock are similiar just 16's without the round the wheel bolt pattern so I was some what trying to keep the same look but yet add more styling to the look. Thanks for the input.

i would deff go with staggered look 8'' up front with 225/45/18 and 9'' rears
with 255/40/18 IMO

also i prefer the goodyear eagle f1's they are a reasonable price and a good
allround performer... also they have a cool tread pattern JMO of course

I'd go with something other than the Nitto's -- they're just not that good.

You can see the ASA ST4 here:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Displ...2FMachined+Lip

They are imitation of the 19" 2 piece AMG Style IV rims that you see on CLS55 with the 030 performance package.

What does a huge lip have to do with "doing your research"?

For one reason or another, Tirerack only offers the ASA ST-4's in 19", I'm only going to go with the 18 so that I can maintain somewhat of a comfortable ride and have some rubber showing. I think the lip would be for Curb Rash ?.

Looking at that link you sent me Kev04C320, kind of looks busy on the wheels..hmm. decisions.

Personally I like those wheels! 18's of that wheel is what I was planning to put on my E350 before I ordered the Sport Pkg.

Great choice. As for doing business with the wheel exchange...I am no help.

Found another set I may be interested in, they are from Rondell ? They run about 1500 for the set. I have read a number of posts that talk about Fender rolling if I go with the staggered look, Where I don't have the sport package, do I still need to do this ? If so then I think I will stick with the 18" 8.5 all around.

One thing you might want to try is emailing info@euroteckmotorsports.com or sales@d2autosport.com and seeing what input they have as well on the rims you want.

Not only are they sponsors of MBWorld.org, but they know aftermarket modifications pretty well.

Be on the lookout for AMG E55 or CLS55 wheels in the classified section. Once a while you can find those with almost new tires for a good price, as many of these hot rod owners go to even bigger wheels.
