'06 E 350 Hard down shift

My E350 seems to downshift hard when coming to a stop when I first take it out in the morning. I don't seem to notice this as I continue driving

This is normal on MB's that I've driven, including a C240, E350 and E320 CDI.. especially with the 7-spd of the E350... I find it handy as I live up a hill, and while the engine is cold, I use it to cost down the hill at low speed without riding the brakes and at the same time give the engine time to warm up.

As the trans learns your driving style it get less and less pronounced I've noticed.

i just took my 06 in with 500miles and was told it needed a new valve or something. i had read that was the problem in another thread on this site so NO the tranny should not shift that way.

someone else had mentioned the tranny also needs a firmware upgrade. any way you look at it it is disappointing,

I took my 06 e-500 with same tranny problems and then replaced some gasket. I was explained by SA that this gasket is somehow responsible for fluid control which does not make any sense to me. Tranny does seem much better though, but not as responsive as it was before. So I don't know.

Similar problem here

I have similar problem. My tranny shifts HARD up or down. With it SRS is getting disabled with "malfunction" message coming up. Took it to the dealer, they kept the car for one week dealing with this and other issues. When I took it back the same SRS malfunction + hard shift problems surfaced.

AND they give me a freaking Jetta as a loaner. Does anyone know what the MBs obligations are as far as replacing my Mercedes with the loaner?

E 350

I am thinking of buying a e 350.

Need input of the car and especially on the reliability & mechanical ability of the car.

This forum is not a good sample as it's going to be filled with people who logged in to file a complaint.. but for what it's worth..

I have two in my family, and both are 8 months old now.. both have 13000 miles combined, and both have had 0 problems.

One is a late build '05 CDI, the other an '06 E350

i think most people come on here to read about their cars like i did but when problems start happening they get frustrated at their regularity. the transmission is an issue and the dealer will replace the valave body and do an upgrade on the ECU. anyhow buy the car it is really nice even with a few bugs...
