NAV not showing all street names

Hi,

My NAV is not showing all the street names. The streets show up but have no names.

This is on a 2004 E55. The DVD shows 2005.3.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Oliver

Are you zoomed out too far? Zoom in closer and see if they show up.

the MB nav in your car will NOT show all the street names, you'll just have to get used to it

I think 2005.3 is the latest. Hopefully the next release will fill in those street names. This may, or may not help in addressing your problem by way of DVD navigation upgrade in as much as it is said to include the most recent info available upon its release. Either way you should look into it if you haven’t already done so. Your particular VIN range for the E55 (211.076) is A675937 – A761346.

Service Campaign 2005060011 SEPT05 – Direct Mail Distribution of Navigation DVD for COMAND (Model years 2003-2006).

Software coding issues in the navigation system may exhibit one or more nuisance issues such as the inability to enter house numbers when entering destination or a frozen navigation map. The navigation system of affected vehicles will be upgraded by the installation of an updated navigation DVD through a mailing to the customers.

Most have received letters however, you can verify if affected by calling the CAC - 800-367-6372 whereby they will verify eligibility through VIN and current address and mail the update, with installation instructions, at no charge. Should you feel more comfortable in having your dealer perform this update, you can arrange for a free installation.

If you want to see the name of any "Un-named street" on your display do this:

Zoom all the way in.

Use the arrows surrounding the "OK" button to move the cross hairs over any road map line on the screen.

The Street Name will display.

When you are done, press the "Back" Soft Key to return to your current location "live" map display.

The DVD contains all the street names, they're just not on the screen because the more densely populated the area is the more crowded & unreadable the screen would be.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for a while. When I traded in my '03 E500 for the E55 I noticed this right away. Actually went back to the dealer where my E500 was still on the lot and turned it on. Sure enough, there were a LOT more names of streets than what I was seeing on the E55. I have no idea why, but it was really weird.

This Mercedes design makes no sense. My other cars always show names on streets that are shown on the NAV.

How much of a help is the NAV if you are looking for Beverly Canyon and know it is one of the three cross street shown on the map but don't know which one it is?

I too just called and was told that my w211 did not qualify (04, e500); however, the rep offered to eMail my "Preferred Dealership" and notify them of my concern so that they may look into applying a "software upgrade".

I asked the rep if purchasing the latest NAV DVD would give me the ability to enter house numbers to which he responded: "The latest NAV DVD will update the map information, but would not change the way the navigation unit handles the information."

This makes sense to me, since I can see how a new NAV DVD would contain new data, but cannot imagine how inserting a DVD into the NAV unit would update the Software (which is what would determine how the NAV unit works). And if it did, like the autoinsert of a CD on a PC, then I can only guess that it would try to perform the update each time the DVD was removed and reinserted.

Can anyone that recieved the DVD confirm that they can now enter House numbers (vs. ranges)?

I have replaced my nav DVD one time since I got the car in 12/03. I got a disc from the parts department (I believe 2005.2) and when I inserted it into the Nav Drive, the nav screen inside displayed "Updating Navigation", the head unit rebooted afterwards, and then the unit was good to go.

I guess that disc had a software update on it for early '04s.

I got the new DVD, I will check out the specific house # entry tonight. There is 1 obvious difference which must reflect some form of software update - the voice is completely different with identical settings. Quite frankly I prefer the old one but what can you do.

This NAV is seriously lacking in the "Details" dept, and living out here in Phoenix, with all the growth and development, it's major out of date! Anyone know when the new DVD's are out?

DVD Nav Problems

I have a 2006 E350. AWD with panoramic sunroof package etc.
Recentlly set Nav. to take me from my home in Kennebnkport Maine to a funeral home at 250 Main ST Watertown Mass. It took me to 250 Main ST Waltham Mass about 5 miles off. Believe it or not It also was a funeral home,
thought I had wrong Day.
Cannot enter exact street number but can do a range of numbers e.g. 75 to 150.
Dealer has ordered new 06 disc for me when available at no cost.
Do however wish it took verbal commands like the one in the BMW 530 AWD
I tried but could not get as good a deal as MB offered.

Sorry for the delay in reply - the new dissc is 2006-1 and you can not enter specific addresses - it's just like to last disc - you enter the specific hourse number and then it gives you a range.

The Garmin in-car navigation system I use on my Volvo that I bought back in !!!1998!!! has this feature. It can look up a numeric street address and is pretty good about taking me to within a couple of hundred feet of the desitination. How can they leave out such a basic feature for so long? Mike brown from FEMA must be the product manager for MB in-car navigation.

I love my NAV

Hey, how do you tell which NAV version you have? My car is 4 months old.

Also, this is the 4th car with NAV for me, (first MB with it). At first I was horrified, but after using it a few times I think it's beats them all. Yeah, I could enter an exact house number, but heck once I get within a block I'm done with NAV. I'm looking out the window for my destination.

And show me another car that lets you enter a destination while moving! Now I can use my NAV.

I also appreciate that I can set it to mute the radio completely when speaking directions, the display in the MFD, two ways to spell stuff out, limiting POI categories to what's relevant for the selected town. Selete Route mode when under guidance and it shows the whole route, but increases the zoom as you get closer. All very good stuff.

I also think it is very intuitive and easy to use.

In the trunk. The nav drive is on the left side. Eject the DVD & read the disk label. Then you'll know which version you have.

Its kind of weird though, that you can type in the exact address on the telephone/radio keypad on the right, it accepts it and then gives you a range anyway...
