The E-class is available outside North America with a 1.8 litre four-cylinder engine and a manual tranmission.

That's not the kind of combination that might encourage gray-market importation by manual transmission fans like me.
The only luxury sport sedan that is theoretically available with a manual in North America is the BMW 5-Series, and even there it's probably a special order. The manual transmission sedan is a dying breed in North America. Pity.

Nope, believe me, only living 5 miles away from the Sindelfingen factory, and picking up my US spec MB in 2 weeks, if there was a way (i.e. buying the tranny guy beer for the rest of the year) I would have done it, it's really too bad that we dont have that option in the US

It is not going to happen, sklasse. Sorry....
Theoretically, if you were a foreign national, with the 'right' work visa/permit, you and your car (manual E-Class of ROW-spec with manual transmission) could both come into the United States legally for that one year. At the end of that year, your car would have to leave - even if you could remain....
Other possibility? A manual transmissioned E-Class more than 25 years old.
Only two possibilities that I can think of.
It would be a waste to spend $50,000 to modify a modern E-Class to some sort of manual transmission....
I once wanted to add 4WD (and 800 pounds!) to a Volvo. When the figure got up to over $30,000 I realized that it was time to go another route....
I suggest that you do the same, my friend.
