Well, here's one time when you don't have to ask yourself whether you should spend the money or not. The iPOD integration kit doesn't work with the '03.

ummm..... not really.

according to MBenzNL, he offers the iPod kit for 2003 W211 cars also.

Furthermore we still offer the usual modifications (mail us for pricing):
- integrated Mercedes Ipod kit (also available for 2004s and 2003s)
- satellite radio kits (as long as our stock of receivers lasts) for all years
…and whatever else that was offered by Mercedes as optional equipment…
The above post can be found in the thread below:

Well, yeah. Steve could probably integrate an iPOD into a 1955 300SL Gullwing, given enough time and money. Mbserb will have to speak for himself on the point, but I think he was looking for an out-of-box solution less expensive than the integration kit alone.

If he wants a less expensive out-of-the-box solution, he can buy my RemoteRemote:

https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....71&postcount=6

On a side note, I don't think integrating the iPod kit in a 2003 is different in price from a 2004, 2005, or 2006. I'm not sure though. Only Steve can answer for sure.

The FM transmission will never be as good as using the AUX jack.

That one is fairly expensive for an FM modulator, but it does have the advantage of keeping your iPOD charged on those long road trips.

Like t-bone said, you won't get the sound quality with an FM modulator that you would with a cassette adapter (or an AUX jack). Our XM SkyFi portable comes with both and, while the FM modulator is very convenient, it sounds muffled and lacking in treble compared to the cassette adapter.

If you had an AUX jack it would be in the glove box. My '03 sure doesn't have one but at least one forum member with an '03 has claimed to have an AUX jack in the glove box. So, might as well look - you might get lucky.

thats what i was thinking about, but with the cassette adapter dont u have to have the door closed on the radio in order for u to play a tape????? i think the wire from the tape to the ipod would get in the way of the door closing!!!

The AUX jack is circled in the picture below.

Using the Remoteremote that I am selling for $30 you can keep everything enclosed inside the glove box and then control the iPod with the included remote.

The cassette adapter (which is not a cassette tape, just something that looks like one) will work with the cassette door open. However, the audio system beeps at you about 30 seconds after you insert the cassette adapter and displays a constant "Please close door" message on the display. On the last long trip we took I used a piece of electrical tape to close the cassette door with just a slit for the wire, enough to prevent the beep and the message. That is, of course, a very inelegant "solution."

You need one of these to remove the static and audio feedback:

Try Harmon Kardon Drive and Play

This is a great IPOD interface. Cost $199, should be able to have it installed for $100 or so. I put the controller inside the ashtray and the display on a suction cup mount at the bottom left of the windshield.
