Recall/Campaign 2005070014

Hi Folks

I just dropped my E500 off at the dealership to address the SBC recall 2005110001 --- retrofit the bracket for SBC unit.

Upon receiving my work order, I see that there are additional work needs to be done. The Campaign number is 2005070014. The descriptions are

- Alt/Volt Regulator Campaign
- Battery C/U Campaign

Are you aware of these 2 additional campaigns? If so, do you have the actual PDF files for these additional campaigns.

Thanks in advance

(1) Service Campaign 2005070017 FEB06
Inspect Alternator, Replace Regulator if Necessary – The alternator regulator may fail to prevent voltage values ranging beyond the specified tolerance limits. As a result, the battery may be insufficiently recharged.

(2) Service Campaign 2005060008 JAN06
Programming Battery Control Module – The battery control module (BCM) erroneously evaluates the battery charge level as good when the actual charge level may be insufficient.

Thanks King Tiger

Do you have the MB actual PDF for these campaigns? Within Startek, MB sometimes publishes actual documents for the service techs to address these campaigns

Thanks again

Konigstiger,

I found most of the TSBs for MBs from alldata if you use that URL you supplied but pull off the "index_issue.html" portion, you'll get into the parent directory on the server with the full listing. One drawback, the full listing isn't set up like the index and you would have to examine each TSB. I spent 14 hrs over three days last week looking at each one, and printing specific TSBs for my vehicle -- a real PITA, but now I have a file drawer full of them.

Regards,
Paul...

I took mine in for service yesterday. The SR ran my vin and said it was up to date on everything. I guess it has to do with model, age? Anyhow..the beast is RUNNING strong!! It must have liked the touchy feely service tech.

Just had mine done on Thursday. I questioned the fact that the car had about 30 miles on it from the mechanical work until it was run through emissions testing (I was coming due) and they told me after the alternator work codes can be stored in the computer and the car needs to be driven 20 miles or so to clear the codes. Anyone confirm? Sounds kind of odd, I could see some codes being set after the electronics fire up the first time after electrical work, but they should be able to clear them at the shop no?

What they are referring to is the readiness codes arent set. When you perform the voltage regulator recall, you have to disconnect the battery. When you do this, it will clear the readiness codes meaning the ECU doesnt have memory of completing all the tests it runs in order to be sure there arent any problems. Emissions stations look at this to make sure people dont just clear the codes right before coming to get tested.

I'll buy that. Thank you for confirming. Of course one has to wonder, if a code is set on a component that would be effecting emissions then the emissions test should register higher regardless of an ECU code!

This would only apply on the emissions tests that actually test the exhaust gas. Most emissions tests now only run an OBD check for fault codes and dont do any kind of exhaust emissions test. This is why they need the readiness codes to make sure the ECU has already completed the tests for them to see.

Not that you really have to disconnect it, anyways we drive some of our cars up to 40+ miles to pass them . . . . 20 miles isnt bad at all.

Ok, let me rephrase. You are supposed to disconnect the battery when replacing the regulator. The tech that worked on the car most likely did this which is why the codes were reset.

D_Tech and/or MBtech1,

Curious, have you attended the MBUSA class given for the 7G transmission? If so, what is being said about the various flaws and adjustments other than it’s a work in progress?

Funny you ask, I went last week. The only thing they really said was that there is a new bulletin out now that says if you get certain fault codes, there is a hub in the trans that needs to be replaced due to a new design that is available. Other than that, it was just about diagnosing and repairing them. Not much about current problems and things like that.

D_Tech and/or MBtech1,

konigstiger was kind enough to post the service campaigns # for the

- Alt/Volt Regulator Campaign was 2005070017
and
- Battery C/U Campaign was 2005060008

BUT when I reviewed the actual work order for my car, the campaign number was listed as 2005070014 for the above listed activity.

Can you relate why the difference?

Many thanks in advance

I cant remember the campaign numbers off the top of my head but that might be the number for the new SBC recall. All 3 of those campaigns are open for 211s now.

Could you tell me what the latest SBC recall entails.

Thanks in advance.

It is just to replace the ground wires for the SBC unit and install a bracket to wire tie them to. On SLs they have this campaign as well as replacing the suction hose on the SBC unit. The E class only has the first one.

Thanks, I had that done quite some time ago. I just wanted to make sure I'm up to date before heading out on vacation this summer.

What is the Opinion of MB about the 7 speed? Do they feel that there are some legitimate user complaints about it? Are they looking for a solution to these shifting complaints? Will they eventually fix/adjust mine or will it simply be a change in the transmission from unit # XXXX onward for transmissions going into cars in production?

I'm NOT a ballbuster, and am willing to wait, but I am horrified by this units "normal" operations.

Barry...take the car to the dealer and have the current fixes applied. They have the solution to the "shifting complaints" and many of those afflicted have had the cure.

The normai operation is one of the smoothest transmissions you will ever find...get your dealer to do his job and you can forget about it.
