Talking Euro Impact Strips - Found at US MB Dealer

I have the clear side marker lights now and don't like them, nor did I like the OEM orange ones. (I am keeping my stock stuff but if anyone wants my clear corners with bulbs for $35 shipped PM me, they are less than 1 month old). I decided the other day I needed the Euro Impact strips and decided to source out my options, I know MBenzNL can get them but I'm sure he also likes to make a profit like anyone would and will be in the states soon so probably couldn't get them until he returned in a month. I do owe MBenzNL a big THANK YOU for referring me to Sunil in Houston is coming to Dallas tomorrow and will lower my car via DAS!

I started by emailing a UK MB dealer, got a reply and a number to call. Called an MB dealer in London and after 10 minutes got part numbers and a price of 54.82 pounds + 17% VAT. Problem was they wouldn't ship, they said I had to arrange that myself through DHL. Called DHL but they quoted my $118 based on my guess of weight and package size and said "probably we could do this for you since you have an account with us". That didn't sound good so I called my local dealer with the part numbers thinking they could order them for me, to my SURPRISE they had them IN STOCK!

YES, some US dealers have the Euro Impact Strips (used to eliminate front side marker lights in bumper). Apparently MB didn't differentiate in the footnotes and some US dealers accidentally ordered the Euro ones! I just picked up my set and my dealer has 3 other sets in stock for those who want them. Information is below:

Euro Impact Strips:

21188005127XXX
21188006127XXX

XXX= your 3 digit color code

Park Place in Dallas, TX has 2 sets of 040 black and 1 set of 744 silver. List price is $114 each. Call Doug at 214-443-8290, he'll know exactly what you want and will ship.

As an added twist, they could not locate one of the strips in my color 753 Tectite Grey even though the computer showed they had it. Their bodyshop wanted $30 to paint one my color but I wanted factory paint, they were able to locate one in CA and it's being shipped now. Pics coming next week with lowering and euro strips!

Lets see a Pic of the (EURO) Front Bumper inserts...
Are You of This?...Parts in Hand from this Dealer? Copy of the Dealer Invoice?

1 The Part Number is a EURO Part Number...NOT a VALID Number in the USA
Checked this on the EPC....as I have tried to locate them here in the states

2 The (EURO) Front Bumper Inserts are NOT LEGAL for USA cars since that they do NOT have a AMBER Side marker...So a USA Mercedes Benz Dealer cannot sell them here in The United States....Legally..as they are NOT DOT Legal!
And The Dealer can be slapped hard from the Feds and MBUSA

If by chance that this is true...Great Find!

Cummins - You already know what they look like, but a picture is below. I know you are some MB expert and I'll admit I am a newbie and had a great find, no need to jump down my throat and incinuate I am lying. I love a good challenge, you don't know me.

I am here to share on the forum, I didn't have to disclose this great find but was helping everyone out. I am here to share, not to just ask questions.

Let's not get the dealer in trouble but they sold them to me, they did NOT install them. I would beg to differ on what they did was illegal, they sold me a part, they did not install the part. Do you know how many of those "white headlight bulbs" are illegal and it says so on the box? They will also sell the other 3 pairs (if not already purchased up by now) if no one goes screaming to MBUSA, after all it was MBUSA error that caused the dealer to get them in the first place. The clear corners are also illegal in the states supposedly, it says so when you buy them that they are for off-road use only.

Picture is attached below. Call the dealer and order them yourself, I provided the number. I know these are illegal and I do not care, do you really think any cop is going to know or state inspection station? My driving over the speed limit is also illegal.

Why are these illegal? I don't know but if someone fills me in then great, I see cars all the time that don't come with side marker lamps.

It may be a Euro part number, but I called the dealer, gave him the number I listed in this thread and he said he had them in stock. He had no trouble locating them and in fact said other dealers did as well. I posted this original thread after I had them in hand.

Yes, this is a good find of your intitiative to call your local dealer. Are you going to do the install yourself or have a body shop to do it?

No_WUR_E - I am going to try and install myself, it looks relatively easy, just pop a few clips and slide. I did my custom exhaust cut outs and they came out good, no reason I can't do this. I'll post pics next week with the lowering done.

CUMMINS - No hate either. It sure it came across that you were calling me out....

You knew what they looked like. No point in hating or arguing, I found them and good luck to the rest who want to get a set! If I wanted to be a d%$k I would have bought them and tried to resell them.

Does anyone know why this is considered illegal? I know it is not a US part # and not DOT approved but why? Many cars don't have lights in this part of the bumper or car (I've been looking around the last few days), we have turn signals in the headlight and mirrors, why the need for the amber light on the 211?

In The USA all cars MUST have front and rear running lights...DOT rules
front must have a AMBER side marker/running light
rear must have a red side marker/running light...
All Late USA cars are required to have them per DOT

An Evaluation of Side Marker Lamps For Cars, Trucks, and Buses
NHTSA Report Number DOT HS 806 430 - July 1983

Abstract
Side marker lamps were installed in cars, trucks, buses, trailers and multipurpose passenger vehicles in response to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. The purpose of side marker lamps is to enable a driver to see another vehicle that is approaching at an angle at night --and to see it early enough that the driver can stop in time to prevent a collision or, at least, slow down to reduce the severity of the collision....

It doesn't matter where the "running lights" are located. They can be separate lights located in the fenders or be part of the parking & tail lights if they are at the corners of the vehicle, or totally separate lights in the bumpers or any combination of the above. One is supposed to see the running lights in the dark, at night because even if you can't see a dark car traveling slowly, you will know which direction the car is traveling by what position the amber & red lights are... Amber on the right, red on the left, the car is moving from your left to right, so you would want to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the car T Bone style, or swerving to the right & accidentally cutting it off across the bow.
