Help! 2003 E500 diesel knock on V8??

Help! 2003 E500 diesel knock on V8??

Can you fellow 2003 E 500 owners tell me if a slight diesel type knock is typical for this model? I hear it around 1500 -2000 rpm's. Dealer says that this is how the engine sounds. Engine management- CPU says nothing wrong.

What kind of fuel are you using? ( octane)

using 91-93 Can only hear it from around 1500-2000 rpms. When the car is in park and you rev the engine no noise.

You might be hearing a lifter noise, do a search on that topic

It sounds like they need to replace the motor mounts:

P-B-07-00/21f - JUL03 2003 E500 Engine Noise
Engine ticking (piston slap like sound) noise complaints when accelerating between 1200 & 300 rpm, replace motor mounts with modified motor mount part # 220 240 05 17 and reset flywheel adaptation.

Thanks for your inout. Doing a search on the forum on this. question i have is how can a bad motor mount cause the noise. Thinking the lifter makes more sense. If you can explain that would be helpful.

I just looked up the TSB and here's the language for E500's:

For E500 a modified motor mount, part no.211 240 05 17, is installed as of chassis no. A224352. On vehicles prior to this chassis no., remove part no. 230 240 00 17 and replace with part no. 211 240 05 17.

Reset the flywheel adaptation.

Note : On vehicles E500 (211.070), warranty claims will only be accepted from vehicles with chassis no. A224352 and lower.

Bad engine mounts for sure, i had the same problem...and for the life of me i couldn't figure out. My SA always told me thats how it suppose to sound, but then one day i took one of the tech out for a ride, he instantly pointed out Bad engine mounts, since then life couldn't be better. Make sure you get this done before warranty expires, or else i think it suppose to cost about $1200-$1400. Good Luck.

Just got the car back. The motor mounts did the trick! No more diesel sound.

Also i had a slight squeak at low speed from my brakes and ended up getting both front spring clips replaced. That did the trick.

Lastly managed to squeeze in my last service before 50K came up.

Did this all at Catena under warranty, service there is excellent.

Tommorrow will be putting on 19's AMG style. Maybe i'll post pics.
