sunglass holder too small

I have a few different styles of nice sunglasses that I wear and can't seem to get any of them to fit into the sunglass holder in my 2006 E500. My sunglasses all seem to be of normal size but the special sunglass compartment that was designed for this purpose seems to be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch too small (depth) to accommodate. Anyone else experience this (what were they thinking) design glitch?

I can't fit any of mine in there as well, so I just use it to store my pen and tire gauge.

If you're talking about the drawer in the dash, I never thought that was a sunglass older. Do they market it this way? I thought it was just an odds and ends drawer for pens, etc.

Owners manual calls it "Mobile phone/Glasses box"

I can store my large Ray Ban Aviators and Orvis Super Lights with large lenses - no problem. There is plenty of room lengthwise.

hmmm... no problem here... i can actually fit 2 pairs of glasses in there, but it makes for a little cumbersome trying to take one out...

I can get small frame glasses in that holder but I use the compartment in the middle of the drivers seat (lower cushion) for larger sunglasses with wrap around frames. This is the same comparment that holds the first sid kit in the front of the passenger's seat.

Use the compartment under the driver's seat.

Angry

Page 276 of my manual reads "compartment for mobile phone/glasses" and was told by dealer/salesman that they fit most pairs of sunglasses.

I just thought it poor design that everything from my raybans, to bolle, to suncloud, to northface and my hobie sunglasses don't fit.

Looks like they had room to increase depth (lenght is fine but the drawer won't close with any of my glasses...too thick

I know I can store them elsewhere in the car but that wasn't my point...just surprised if you engineer a design for a specific purpose that it doesn't work

Reminds me of the drink holders in my old BMW...I finally concluded the Germans didn't think us Americans should be drinking in the car....perhaps they don't think we should wear glasses either....why market the drawyer as a glasses holder if it won't work

It appears to work for traditional sunglasses (if there is such a thing). Is it the wraparound kind that won't fit?

My Maui Jims don't fit either and they are not real big... a set of wire rim reading glasses are about all that seem to fit for me...and I forget the damn things are in there anyway ! If anyone finds a skinny coffee cup that fits in this cup holder contraption please let me know

I think the cup holder was designed to hold those little Espresso cups

You might have to import one from Germany...

Doesn't fit my wife's sunglasses or mine, either. My wife (the daily driver) has taken to tossing her spare change in the drawer, so I made a little cardboard tray that fits into the drawer to make it easier to remove the change every so often.

Yup, sunglasses don't fit. So I use the little tray as a loose change holder (rubber pad keeps it quiet) that's missing in our CDI (our 4 Runner has a change holder, for godsakes!).

My sunglasses do not fit either. I use the draw to hold a pocket pack of Kleenex.

My RayBan doesn't even slip in but it fits a pack of Malboro and a small lighter perfectly.
