For dealer prices, $250 sounds right. I know the dealership where I bought my car charges $275 for "A" service which is an oil/filter change and under the hood fluid inspections.

Regards,
paul...

rodE350,

I like the smilely you posted -- I probably should have answered esport with "Welcome to MB Ownership"!

In the Washington DC Area, American Service Center offers a synthetic oil and filter change for $89. For $250 is your dealer doing anything else besides the oil and filter change?

You can find the details here:

Let's see, 8 1/2 quarts of Mobile 1 @ $4.50 = $40 plus $16 for the fleece filter = $56 just for the parts. I would check what kind of synthetic a non-dealer is using to make sure it is MB229.5 compatable. The dealer is supposed to do more than change the oil and filter for even an "A" service. I am not sure that you are getting $250 worth of service for the oil & filter but the "C" service is an indicator of how much time it will take to perform the service, not what service is required so if the $250 is for all of the "C" service, it doesn't sound too bad to me.

The greatest boon to Mercedes and other German car dealerships was the invention of *Inspections*. An oil change, even at $100/hour should cost around $100. I'd ask them to tell you specifically what they are going to do for that money.

I had my tires rotated at a dealer (and they were off for another reason). I was changed $30 and they didn't even adjust the tire pressures!!

When my *free* oil changes run out, I'll be using my Topsider to do them.

What I really should do is sell the E320 and get myself a Honda or Toyota. $30 for walk in oil service. In and out in an hour.

OK, you are starting to talk crazy. Move into the shade for a while and keep repeating to yourself "German Engineering, German Engineering, German Engineering". See - now don't you feel better already?

I'd feel better if the SA had a German accent and wore a white coat. Back in the day when I took my '57 Porsche to a dealer, mechanics were not allowed to drive it. They had to push it around the shop and only the Shop Supervisor could do the test drives. All the mechanics had German accents and wore white coats. How could anyone question the bill?

Please tell us that you have kept the '57 Porsche all these years and roll it out occasionally to polish it or take a Sunday drive.

I lease my E320, and consequently skip all of the Service A's and C's and etc. My dealer completely understands my rationale, and gladly performs a simple oil/filter change for $89 and resets the MFD for me (yes, complete with Mobile 1 synthetic). Oh yeah, they also pick my car up at the house and leave me with a loaner...usually their newest demo car - last time an '06 ML with 41 miles on it. Always returned washed, and the time before last, waxed, shampooed carpets, and completely detailed including engine compartment.

I suppose I should start a new thread asking others if I am getting screwed.

Wow. Who is your dealer? It's really nice to hear that someone is being taken care of so well.

Jim,
I see it's been a while since you changed your oil -- M1 0W40 is up to $5.50/qt and the fleece filters are just under $20 + shipping online.

Although esport's car only has 7.5K mi, he did say it was 2 yrs old -- maybe it's time for a brake bleed?

Regards,
Paul....

Believe it or not, I did live in Paso Robles but not at the time he was killed. He had a 550 Spider and mine was a 70HP 1600 Normal.

Mercedes Benz of Traverse City (Michigan). Yes, it's really nice being treated the way an MB customer (or any customer for that matter) should be treated. Needless to say, I will buy/lease my next MB from them, as I have my previous models.

Thanks for all the info, I am going to ask them if they are charging $250 for the enitre service C and what exactly is included in that price. If it is only oil and filter it's a rip off, now when I bought my car they offered me my first oil and filter change on the house but again it was said by words and not on paper!

esport,

Next time, step through the FSS to see which service items are required -- then you'll know what has to be done. Instructions are in the owner's manual and/or see konigstiger's post which he outlined all the service items (1 thru 14).

Regards,
paul....
