Only You Can Decide

My decision was to get a loaded 06 for a hefty discount rather than wait months for an 07 at near list price. Yes, they changed 2000 parts and removed SBC. But I didn't "see" much difference and I couldn't "feel" anything funny about the 06 brakes. The E350 06 has the nice 7 speed and enough power for me. If power is important, you might want the 07 E550.

The 07 is still a W211. My plan is to sit happy in my 06 until the next generation E arrives as a 2009 model. Now that will be a different car.

Only reason you'd want to go with an 07 would be if you were in the market for the V8 E-class...otherwise stick with a good discount on an 06 350

I feel you lose more taking a year's depreciation instantly rather than over a year long period. I believe that you are taking a bigger hit than the discount you are getting taking an '06 off the dealer's hands.

Furthermore, I believe NOT having SBC in the '07 will make those cars more desireable at resale time, whether to a private buyer debating over a used '06 or a used '07 or as a trade in to the dealer who will look at your '07 car as having fewer inherent problems... MB wouldn't be going "back in history" to a conventional brakeing system rather than SBC if they didn't think the SBC system was "Not ready for Prime Time".

GM removed the V8-6-4 engines years back from Cadillacs option list, because while the idea was sound, the technology wasn't up to snuff back then, and almost singlehandedly ruined the brand's quality image. Now the thechnology is even on the Chevy Impala, and working well.

In this day and age if you look for an agressive dealer, he will not try to Sticker Price you at new E intro time. I did. I bought my car on the net from a dealer in PA who custom ordered it for me the 1st week orders were being accepted on the '04s... for $3500 less than any dealer was willing to part with the same car here on Long Island back then. While there are still some "snobby" dealers, many of the smarter dealers want to "Turn & Earn"*, rather than follow the old style Sales Manager's mantra of: "Sell what you can see. Dont see what you can sell."

*Turn over as many cars you can sell, whether in stock or ordered, in order to earn higher allocations of harder to get models from the "factory".

Any reason to be scared of the new 07 Bluetec E320 CDI?

The only reason I ask is because I lemon lawed/ manufacturer bought back my last new model E class (03 E500). I like the CDI in the current E body but the refreshed model and the new motor could be nice to have if all the bugs are worked out.

I just ordered an '07 Bluetec. I considered an '06 CDI, but didn't feel the discount was enough given the depreciation hit. I looked for an '05 or '06 on the used market, but couldn't find one that was equipped as I wanted or had a reasonable price. The diesels do hold their value well.

To me, the '07's offered a new look (like it or not, the fresher look will be more desirable at resale time), no SBC, perhaps better quality (we'll see), Pre-Safe, and a new steering system (touted as more "direct" feeling).

The '07 Bluetec may also get better mileage with the 7-speed tranny and a more advanced direct injection system. Although the engine is relatively new, it has been extensively tested and is in use in Europe. So although this is somewhat of a concern, it did not outweigh the benefits.

Has MBZ gone to the blue-tinted glass in the E-Class now?

The blueish tinge has come standard on the W211 chassis equipped with the sports/appearance package.

Original poster: I would get the 06 350, cuz the 07s have the fugly grill and taillights. Now if you're considering the V8, I would get the E550 (whenever they’re suppose to come out) just cuz of the bump in HP.

blue tinted glass comes with the AVANTGARDE trim (code 954) which is what the sports/appearance package in the US actually is...AMG modells all come with code 954 (avantgarde) so they all should have blue tinted glass (except for the ones with optional IR glass - code 596)

That's particularly funny because my wife has previously said if MB was going to that blue-tint as a standard in the '07 CDI that it would be a deal breaker for her.

kar don aka alboston lol Why do you want a w211 just out of curiosity? I know you have switched around cars quite a few times. I have owned both the A6 and the W211 and was about to get a 5 series. To be honest w/you I rank the w211 below the 5 and the A6....

Yeah 5 series and A6 are both very nice. I am waiting for the facelift 2007.
