Worth waiting for an 07? or just get an 06 at a good price
The 07 is still a W211. My plan is to sit happy in my 06 until the next generation E arrives as a 2009 model. Now that will be a different car.
Furthermore, I believe NOT having SBC in the '07 will make those cars more desireable at resale time, whether to a private buyer debating over a used '06 or a used '07 or as a trade in to the dealer who will look at your '07 car as having fewer inherent problems... MB wouldn't be going "back in history" to a conventional brakeing system rather than SBC if they didn't think the SBC system was "Not ready for Prime Time".
GM removed the V8-6-4 engines years back from Cadillacs option list, because while the idea was sound, the technology wasn't up to snuff back then, and almost singlehandedly ruined the brand's quality image. Now the thechnology is even on the Chevy Impala, and working well.
In this day and age if you look for an agressive dealer, he will not try to Sticker Price you at new E intro time. I did. I bought my car on the net from a dealer in PA who custom ordered it for me the 1st week orders were being accepted on the '04s... for $3500 less than any dealer was willing to part with the same car here on Long Island back then. While there are still some "snobby" dealers, many of the smarter dealers want to "Turn & Earn"*, rather than follow the old style Sales Manager's mantra of: "Sell what you can see. Dont see what you can sell."
*Turn over as many cars you can sell, whether in stock or ordered, in order to earn higher allocations of harder to get models from the "factory".
The only reason I ask is because I lemon lawed/ manufacturer bought back my last new model E class (03 E500). I like the CDI in the current E body but the refreshed model and the new motor could be nice to have if all the bugs are worked out.

To me, the '07's offered a new look (like it or not, the fresher look will be more desirable at resale time), no SBC, perhaps better quality (we'll see), Pre-Safe, and a new steering system (touted as more "direct" feeling).
The '07 Bluetec may also get better mileage with the 7-speed tranny and a more advanced direct injection system. Although the engine is relatively new, it has been extensively tested and is in use in Europe. So although this is somewhat of a concern, it did not outweigh the benefits.

Original poster: I would get the 06 350, cuz the 07s have the fugly grill and taillights. Now if you're considering the V8, I would get the E550 (whenever they’re suppose to come out) just cuz of the bump in HP.

greetingz,
That's particularly funny because my wife has previously said if MB was going to that blue-tint as a standard in the '07 CDI that it would be a deal breaker for her.
HEHE, today was mod day for the E
Yeah 5 series and A6 are both very nice. I am waiting for the facelift 2007.
