I just pulled the cable for my iPod to the ashtray. It took a grand total of about 20 minutes. Great how-to!

Old thread, but I was wondering if anyone had threaded their aux extension further into the centre console lower storage compartment. Being that the lower storage compartment has an a/c vent, I was thinking that it may help an iPod run cooler.

I basically need to know how to bypass the cup holder and get through the bottom base of the centre storage compartment.

Any tips/help greatly appreciated.

Here's another option: I ran a 1/8 female (panel mount) to 1/8 male audio cable from the glove box underneth the ashtray, underneth the shifter boot/cover to the back of the center console.

But while drilling the hole for the aux input jack, I scuffed the armrest/center console with the drill (you can see it in the pic). Any ideas how to repair it or at least make it look better as I don't wanna buy a center console cover.

THX!

Can't an upholstery/interior shop dab it with leather dye to hide it a bit? Nice Job on the install BTW!

Nice. Gonna try to get this done. It's especially annoying since I have my radar detector cord going vertical along the comand area, so if I get the aux from behind, it would make things way better.

my wife wild, but she loves every minute of it.
I have a Kuda mount for my Garmin, so I'm running the aux up to the front-center of the dash, and into the Kuda mount. I'll post project photos later.

"Sunglasses" Drawer

The 'sunglasses' drawer is almost useless. My Blackberry won't fit, and neither will my sunglasses (although, my regular glasses do fit). Whoever wrote the specifications for that little drawer got is all wrong. Has anyone come up with clever (legal) uses for the drawer?

Spare garage/gate door opener in case the build in one doesn't open the gate (does that sometimes)

Absolutely I have a great use for it. Your observation is very astute, though. Unless Europeans have really slim sun glasses, none will fit and just about anything else useful won't fit either. I keep a spare magazine for my 9mm in there.

I use it...

to keep the spare key to my wife's car. She has my spare in hers. So if we're ever locked out, one can save the other. Well, unless we're together... or both of us are locked out simultaneously

$5.00 cord from Radio Shack attached to AUX jack in glove box, zero install time. Sounds great! Limited hours of play time since it doesnt charge in the car, but I have $695 i can spend on lots of other fun stuff!

Ipod 3.5mm data cable

TTT for those who are on the fence with their ipod aux input. It's easy to run the cable to the ashtray or center armrest.

I have the iPod kit and want to route it to the ashtray in the center console. For anyone who has done this, is the cable sufficiently long so that after this is done it is still easy to connect it to your iPhone?

Great thread here. I was just able to successfully re-route my iPod integration kit to the ashtray. I was a little puzzled with how to get the relatively thick cable through the back of the ashtray, until I saw a small tab, which looks like it was made to be broken off, in the upper left hand corner of the ashtray near the light bar. I snapped this off after some sizing and low and behold the telephone plug looking end slid right through. (If it was designed for this, I'd be amazed, but it if wasn't, it still worked perfectly.)

I couldn't be happier as it was a pain to reach across the car to plug in my iPhone each time I wanted to listen to it or charge it.

Thanks.

Has anyone continued the iPod integration cable on, under the shifter, and into the glovebox? I would be curious in seeing where you drilled through the center console compartment.

I don't want to give up my cupholders, but would consider going here rather than in the ashtray.

Has anyone hard-wired a radar detector? I am tired of having the ashtray open ALL the time! It'd be nice to put that cord away too.
