I just did this earlier tonight and barring a few snags it was fairly simple. My only real problem is that I can't get the shift trim all the way back in and I'm afraid to force it and crack the wood!

I bought a Skydock SiriusXM device for my iPod touch and it works like a champ! More importantly because of this thread it looks clean!

Key in pos 2, push the brake pedal and move the shifter in D. Then take the ask tray out, and pull the shifter cover plate up in the front. You need a little bit of force (from 3 fingers), you can't break anything.

Then once you lifted it up you can turn the cover plate 90 degrees and let it sit/hang to the passenger side and you have enough room to work.

I appreciate the reply, but, I already got the shift trim out and finished the work. My problem is that I can't get the shift trim back in now. I'm pushing with a good bit of force and it just won't seat and I'm afraid to start really twisting and jamming at it.

Will this work on the 2003 E500? The 04's came with the option for the ipod but that wasn't available on 03's so I was wondering if the 03 has the same out put connectors?

First, push it in at the rear, when you push it down in the front, push it also more towards the back. It will pop in eventually.

If you want I'll make a video for you. Let me know.

2003 and 2004 and up until COMAND NTG2.5 came out, you can install the iPod Integration kit. I did it myself a few years back and also installed it recently on another car. Lots of work but it's def. worth it.

The only drawback is that you cannot control the iPod with your COMAND, but only with the steering wheel buttons.

Mackhack, that would be awesome! I suppose I should just go out there and do it. The other problem is that it's just too damn cold and I just don't feel like it! Thanks for your help!

80 degrees . . . ha! It's barely half that right now in the Chicago burbs! I would love to see a video of this. I tried it again and it just isn't happening. I can barely see that it's hitting those tabs and I don't want to snap those off. I have more toys I wanna buy so I don't need to be breaking things and paying to repair/replace them!

Yep, my car is a work in progress project too as you can see from my signature I'm putting the power trunk closer in right now. Tonight it's most likely done and the car is back in one piece.

Nice! Ok, I don't need the video now. My tenacious friend managed to get the piece back in using a blade from my Leatherman to guide the metal pieces past the plastic tabs. My baby is back together for the time being and pumping out 80s classics once again! Thanks for the help!
