I just ordered my wood/leather wheel yesterday as well. Hopefully it will be here for the weekend if Albert is as quick shipping as it sounds like.

Hey, what did you pay for it?

He's quoting me EURO 335.00 ( 430.00 US) firm plus shipping. I know that Rod paid less than that. I wonder if price is based off color. Mine would be Charcoal with the dark (sport package) wood.

you will probably not get it because of the holiday. If he ships today, which I believe he will, it will get to your post office by wednesday the latest. then again, it may be early because he sends it express parcel. you will have to personally recieve it and sign for it. post office will not just leave the box on your front door.

I paid $420 shipped. My color is charcoal / burl walnut. You might be correct because the color of your wood is different. But still, $430 is still darn cheap compared to $700-$800 the stealerships are asking.

Oh yeah....you're right...not complaining.

Just wondering why the price would be different is all. So I think he charges 45.00 for shipping so its 475.00 because of the color of the wood? Sounds weird...55 bucks extra for color. Interesting.

The foreign currency exchange rate is continually in motion, and may account for the extra $$$.

If it is like this one then it is a little more.

We did the business in US$ so the exchange rate was never an issue. If you ask you might be able to get the same price/deal for that type wheel. It can never hurt to ask.

Just chattted with Albert about the wheel. He is currently "Out of stock" do to the demand from MBWorld members and others. He is expecting a large shipment tomorow and if orderd today will arrive in 3 to 4 business days. The wheels are 420.00 U.S. dollars. He says he can't go any lower than that and that has been the price he has been charging all who inquire. This is for the Burl with Black leather. No one that he knows of has gotten the wheel for $400.00 shipped.

He seems like a reasonable guy just trying to make a buck. He thanked the forum for the business and wishes he could offer more of a discount. Hopefully I will get mine in the next few days.

Anyone want to buy a slightly used Black leather in great condition wheel

Thanks for the legwork Jocon63. I'm gonna get it no matter what the heck it costs. I don't give a crap about that. It's just money, right? You can always make more. Just thought it was interesting that the price varies depending on color.

Again, thanks for clearing it all up.

Question on the install:

1. Is everyone using a torque wrench to break loose the main bolt? If so, what are the torque requirments when tightening it back down? How many ft=lbs?

2. What is the risk of replacing the wheel off center? I've never done one of these before so I'm assuming that as long as you take it off with the wheel centered, that it should go right back on centered.

Looks like Albert will be a happy guy...

To answer your questions - Benz-O-Rama:

1.I used a torque wrench only because I happen to own one. I wanted something with a long handle to make it easier to break the bolt but I'm sure you can use any other long handle ratchet. I set the torque to 30lbs to tighten. (Re-Apply some Loctite on the bolt)

2.Before you begin make sure to center the steering wheel. When you remove the bolt the steering wheel will easily pull out. When you put your new wood steering wheel in... make sure the screws are lined up with the plastic plate (Circled in Green) and the plastic tab is centered on the steering wheel (Circled in Red).

The margin of error is very little. I would say in the mm. You have the wire harness hole and the tab hole which help in centering the steering wheel.

Hope this helps!

What gives??. Got the 10mm hex and the T27 but I can't get the damn bolts loose with the 10mm hex, I can't find a socket/hand driver that fits the diameter of the hole.? Any advise as to perhaps what I might be doing wrong here. Anyone have a picture of how they setup the 10mm to remove the bolts.. Parked for now .. Thanks

Actually I'm now starting to think that the bolts that hold the airbag are now 10mm.. Anyone know what size they are and the means in which to remove them. 2001CLK what did you use the 10mm Hex bit for ?

Geez I need to lay off the booze.. T27 is for the bolts that hold that airbag in and the 10mm Hex is for the wheel removal Oh well, back to lowes to return all the stuff and off to Sears to get the right tools since they seem to be the only place that carries them,

He'll get back to you, I can tell you this though, he is out of the wood / burl steering wheels (Thanks to the mbworld members) and is having trouble getting the stock replenished. I have been waiting 3 weeks and countin. He does email with status updates and has offered to credit my paypal but I told him I would wait another week.

Not if it's a Stahlwille torque wrench.

Breaker bar is best nevertheless because these bolts are REALLY tight.

Retighen to 70 ft lb IIRC.

I agree. I used a breaker bar to loosen the screw. It was not that difficult to loosen the screw. Hold the steering wheel steady with one hand while holding the breaker bar with the other hand to loosen the screw. Do not use the steering wheel lock while loosening the screw as the previous post suggested....you might break the lock.

I got an email from him last week:

I hereby want to inform You that I have received the long awaited delivery of the wheels from Germany. Unfortunately there was a mistake done on the supplier’s side. Instead of obtaining Mercedes W211 wheels I got W230 with the adequate colors. I have confronted the supplier. They have apologized and promised to send the right wheels a.s.a.p. Considering that the first delivery took almost 2 weeks, I have no reason to believe that the new delivery will be faster.

My suggestion is therefore that we cancel the transaction and I instantly refund You with Paypal. For the moment I don’t see any better solution and I feel very uncomfortable to keep you waiting any longer!!!

I hope You understand and are ok with my proposal. If the wheels will arrive faster than I think I will immediately let You know.

Please confirm this e-mail and let me know if You have any further remarks.

I told him that I was fine waiting another couple of weeks. So hopefully I should hear back sometime next week that he has received a shipment.
