Issues with Brakes-2003 E500

I am having some issues with my brakes.
- First, my front brakes are squeaking as I come to a stop though I am not receiving a brake pad indicator.
- Second, sometimes when I press my brakes, the car will shift forward; almost like it's been hit from behind. It's not the normal shifting of weight when you apply the brakes. It feels like something under the car shifts hard.

Does anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated in advance.

Given some of the issues with the Electronic braking system and this issue I would take to MB for them to find the issue. Jim

How long have you owned this vehicle? Is it still under warranty? Any past issues with the brakes? Was the SBC recall performed? I think the SBC system may be warranted for longer than 4 year/50,000 miles. Definitely see the dealership.

I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, it's still under warranty so I'll take into the dealer. They wanted to charge me just to take a look at it so I thought I would check the forums to see if there have been any issues.

Very much appreciate the quick reponses.

What kind of dealership charges to look at a car under warranty? Is this the place you bought the car?

They shouldn't charge to look at if it is still under warranty

Yeah, they'll be charging MBUSA plenty for the visit... which should cost you NOTHING whether or not you purchased the car there.

The Warranty is between you and MBUSA, and the dealer as a franchisee of MBUSA has to provide the follow through for them in the USA.

Warranty work is never a losing proposition for the dealer. they get paid by MBUSA.

The dealer took a look at the car. Said I need new front brake pads and rotors and new back brake pads. $866 for parts and labor. Is that expensive?

Also, shouldn't these pads and rotors last longer than 27K miles?

Yes, but if you drive very agressively it's possible to wear them out in 27,000 miles. I think you need a second opinion, this dealership sounds like a bunch of thieves. how can they charge you for diagnosing a problem under warranty?!??

I paid $550 for rear pads and rotors at my MB dealer. The front pads were replaced at the same dealer for $350 for just pads only. Total for me was $900 for pads all the way around and new rear rotors. I think that was a bit high, but given the dealer was doing the work probably an OK price. Would have been better if my front rotors were replaced also but they weren't. So I am not unhappy with the price just a "mercedes Tax ". So I do think $866 is a bit high unless you are getting new Calipers also. Check it. Jim

I had the same problem. Had the car in three or four times, each time they blew out brake dust, put antisqueal on the pad backs, replaced the pad clips with a revised clip but the squeal returned with in a few days.

Finally they replaced the front pads at about 30k miles with a revised brake pad.

No charge.

Does anyone know of a good Mercedes repair shop on the San Francisco Peninsula? I've been less than satisfied with Mercedes Benz of San Francisco.
