2007 E and radio presents: Can we now scan them from the steering wheel?

Curious- current E's stupidly lack the ability to scan radio presets from the steering wheel as one can do from pretty much every other car.
MB's reason had something to do with the European market, but sounded like total and utter BS to me and just about everyone else here if I recall correctly.
Does anyone know if the freshening fixed this annoyance?

re: scanning the presets

No. On my '07, it seems to work the same way it did with my '03. It scans staion by staion, not my presets.

The audio unit on the '07 is presumably the same as the audio unit for '04 through '06. So, restoring the ability to scan presets on the '07 would be an admission by M-B that they made a mistake, and admitting that they made a mistake would put them under pressure to make the same capability to scan presets available at no cost to owners of pre-'07 models. That would cost money. I wouldn't expect the ability to scan presets restored until M-B introduces a new audio unit, whether with the W212 or at some other time, which would give them cover for correcting their mistake non-retroactively.

Curious, did you check the MFD menu to see if there is a setting to choose between frequency and presets? If not, the ultimate test would be to ask your dealership to include it through STAR and in the process have them choose presets and see if it works then.

This always seemed the logical way to fix the problem: Have a choice via the MFD.

Why is this so hard a concept for MB to grasp? How hard could it be to implement a simple software change?

It's not fixed on my ML either. It would be nice to have, especially since nearly every other car with steering wheel controls (including old MBs!) can do this.

I thought it would at least work for Sirius, but...

Got me by the small hairs, Stuttgart engineers said they couldn’t retrofit a fix for 03 through 06 because of software conflicts. My take: The cost factor to retrofit so many vehicles, for what they consider a minor feature, is simply unjustified. However, they specifically said it would be in the 07 models given the IC electronics are new.

Has anyone actually checked the MFD or a dealerto see if there is a choice?

Thumbs up Good news. Can anyone confirm if this applies to US models as well?

My New '07 scans via-presets. (You need to change the option on the settings menu via the sterring wheel).

HOWEVER, it does not seem to scan via presets when you use Sirrius Radio (SAT). Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: scanning the presets on your '07

My '07 doesn't scan presets unless I am just unable to accomplish this. Can anyone guide me through the steps on how to change the settings for this feature, if it is possible?

On the Command screen for audio, pressing the "preset" button simply displays the presets, but pressing the steering wheel buttons does not scan these presets. It scans all stations as it did in my '03.

Doing this from memory....

Go to "settings" on the steering wheel. Under "convenience" there should be a toggle choice for the presets that let's you either select "frequency" or "presets". If it's not under "convenience" check "vehicle", or just check the manual for whcih menu it's under.

Unfortunately the frequency/preset setting does not include SIRIUS. Ridiculous considering what (WE) went through to get this feature back!
