why does this happen
edit: forgot to mention, this only started after 50K, before that it was still thrusty.
does this mean all MB 5-liter engines weaken after 50k ? The reason I ask is I am thinking of trading it in, and whether to go for the 5-liter variant or not.

It's also possible that the electronic throttle has adapted to your driving style.
If you read car mags' long-term tests, acceleration rarely wavers more than a few tenths of a second either way after 40-50k miles (less than can be measured by seat-of-the-pants).

I do it about once a month or so. Brings the E back to life!!
Try it, it works.

I had some jerkiness while driveing in S-mode between 1st and 2nd gear and it is completely gone. This is great...
Only problem now is that I need to keep that ECU on its toes!

Yeah man. I'm telling you, it wakes my E right up everytime I do this. After a month or so of daily driving to and from work in traffic, it goes back into granny mode and this reset brings it right back to life.
Whoever figured this out deserves 5 dollars from everyone who's tried it. That'd be a nice chunk of change for him.
