Is there a VCS owners manual/instructions ??

My '04 E320 has VCS with a small lever on the RH side of the steering wheel.
(for voice recognition calls I imagine)
Nothing about it in the owner's manual or in the command manual. Whenever they mention vcs, it says "see separate operating instructions."
Dealer says no separate book/instructions. If any of you have one would you please describe it and, if possible, a part # would really help. Thanks

No seperate book/instructions Hopefully one of the 04 owners should be able to give you the correct reference #.

Anyway for now here’s a copy of the instructions given for the 06 CLS, operation should be more or less the same.

KT....according to the first pic of the instructions (which does ref the E-Class), there is, in fact, a separate
"Voice Control System operation guide". Or are you saying they didn't print one in '04,
even though the OM references it ?

The “No separate book/instructions” was intended to point out how ridiculous the dealer’s comment was.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you something in writing that you can reference until a 04 owner can give you the reference # from their VCS guide so the dealer can get you one corresponding to your model year. More than likely there are not any changes between model years 04 through 06 however, it would be best that you have the right guide # so the dealer cannot deny you in requesting a copy.

Try a call to MB CAC @ 800-367-6372 this might get you a copy of the guide you’re looking for. Make sure to have your VIN handy.

There IS a separate Book. Just dug my '04's out.
"Voice Control System Operation Guide"
"Order Part No. P-279903A (07/02) SJJN4791A"

In the mean time, whatever application you are in pull the lever & say "Help" the syetem will respond with a list of valid commands for that application. There are no commands for the Navigation unit or Satellite Radio or to enter Satellite mode by voice. You have to push the button.

You can also go into set up & have the list of available comands be displayed on screen whenever you say "help".

If you have the V60 Phone you need not switch into the phone mode to voice dial. Just pull the lever & say "Dial Name" when you are listening to the radio.

You will find the voice recognition is stupendous as long as the windows/roof are closed. Speak to the windshield mirror area.

After reading through the manual, it appears that the only difference is
that my '04 doesn't have the voice intelligent training feature via command.

Thanks Barry, since I bought the car 3 weeks ago I don't know why I was under the impression that
the VCS was strictly for the phone.... probably because I didn't have the manual, and didn't notice that lever.
