I can't cite any objective evidence, but I suspect that few people over 40 go in for rim swaps or other cosmetic mods. Note, I said "few", not "none." I'm well over 40 and changing rims for the sake of appearances just doesn't interest me. The ones that came with the car look just fine to me and do an excellent job of keeping the tires round. People of any age are free to do whatever they want with their money, though.

Haven't been in the work force for too long after graduating from college. I don't like the rims mine came with, and would love to have the factory AMG rims but can't afford the swap yet. I don't like aftermarket rims, I prefer the ones with the MB logo. 25 yrs old

29 soon to be 30.
Car came with 17" factory sport rims, shortly afterwards bought 18" AMG E55 wheels and just this past week bought 18" AMG E63 wheels, due to arrive this Monday. I would never consider a non MB wheel/aftermarket on my car or MB knock offs.

I was 62 when I put the 18" BBS RS-GT wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires on Helga, our diesel Benz.
But then, I guess you could say I'm young at heart. I'm now almost 64 and I do performance driving instruction for PCA, BMW CCA and a commercial school (Trackmasters). I currently have a Porsche GT3 on order, November build, December delivery.
Life is sweet!

Interesting... replies.
So for those who are married does your wife care at all about the rims?
Any females here that modify their cars? I think that will be cool.
BTW, I'm 27.

Not only does my spouse not care about the rims, she generally isn't aware when the fuel light is on! Dear soul that she is (our 43rd is coming up this year), all she requires of our vehicles is that they start and transport her the 2.5 miles to work and back with no involvement on her part!
This has its advantages, if you'll notice what I have on order!

I guess I'm lucky - the wifey likes the wheel choices so far. She's very careful when it comes to door dings/parking and avoiding wheel curbage.
She hasn't quite mastered heel and toe but is getting there with rev matching.
Once she took the S4 to work and booted it - she called me up and said "wow! this car just wants to GO!"

I was 30 when I bought this Mercedes, now I am just about to turn 33. I bought rims for my winter tires, so I guess this does not count. However, I never really liked the winter rims so I am waiting to wear out the Continental tires on the OEM 16s and then I will use these rims for winter. I bought the Mercedes 5-spoke 17 inch wheels on sale and they are sitting in their boxes in the basement.
I think that I was 25 when I bought updated 7-spoke rims for my W124 and used the OEM 15s for snow tires on that car. I was about the same age when I had very aggressive rims on my S6 that showed off my Porsche brake calipers and the rear cross-drilled and vented disks on my Audi S6. I bent the rims all the time and I ended up buying another set of the OEM rims for the Audi. Now both summer and winter rims on my S6 are OEM rims. I am done with bending rims on this car.
I really like nice rims, but I am not a big fan of the attention they get. I think that I must be getting old at heart.

To add to my post #12 above : Bought my '04 320 the end of August and it has the appearance package (called "sport" in '03) which includes the 5 spoke 17" upgrade wheels, from the 16" twin spokes.
Neither my wife or I think these are all that great looking so the day before I picked up the car, I bought the 17" twin spokes from
KosherBenz (thank you Evan) and finally had the time to mount them today.
I know this isn't much of an upgrade in forum members eyes, however, in our opinion, it really changes the look of the car for the better.
(plus the 5 spoke wheels were visually similar to the wheels on her Lexus RX330)
Edit: Another plus was that the original tires were Conti's, and KB's came with Michelin Pilots.
