drove the e500
wow, what a car.....the whole thing was very very quiet, there was no wind noise at all. A huge step up from the e320....also, the power was amazing. We couldn't hear anything on the freeway, we wanted to see the engine noise, but there was hardly going into 90
I think it is a lot better than the s430. We could only hear the tires, just because they were the sport tires...but everything else was flawless...the sound system was booming. Also the glove box has two compartments. It was very funny, because when we were leaving we were taking a u-turn ramp or whatever....my were going maybe 40, and our tires started to skid, and my dad was like whos car was that!!, i was like this one....it was very funny...also, if that scares anyone, dont worry, it was our camry, not the e500
I thought the car was unbeatable, it was so comfy, and the engine had no noise..but i dont know, it didnt feel like there was enough air coming from the rear vents at all......it was hardly on at full air. Other than that, i was very impressed...if anyone is thinking of a e320....there is a whole new world for less that 8 grand...especially with all the standard options...everone will get leather, and met paint.thats over 2 graand rigfht there

I just want to clarify, it sounds like you're implying that the E320 isn't as quiet and there is more wind noise than the E500. Is that true? I'm looking at the E320, primarly because of insurance concerns. Here in NJ they don't treat us 24-year-olds too well when it comes to car insurance (even though I've never had so much as a traffic ticket). The insurance premium differential between a V6 and a V8 is pretty huge.

oo yea, the e500 was better in all areas, the wind noise was lower, and engine of course was lower, the engine is much quieter, because when you pucnh the gas, the engine doesnt moan as much, because it doesnt work as hard...look at a e500 man, in the end, youll be much happier, 1600 dollars or whatever for 81 hp!, call me crazy, but thats the best deal i have ever heard of....plus, the 500's wont go away for a long time, wait 3 years, and there will be no e320...

How can the wind noise be louder on the E320 than the E500? That is impossible unless you were driving with a door open on the E320 or you had a window cracked open and didn't realize it. You just like the E500 more because of the extra power, therefore you favor it in some areas where it is equal to the E320.
Why will there be no E320's? There has always been a W210 E320 and there always will be. Mercedes-Benz will ALWAYS offer a V6 model for the E-Class. There is a chance that it could switch to an E350 in a few years, however I doubt that.
Yes, the E500 is nice, but we are getting an E320 because it will be for my mom. She doesn't want, nor need the extra power of the E500. If it was going to be my car, it would have been the E500 rather than an E320, but I do not plan on driving it.

I dont care what you say, your dad can buy your education, but that wont do you any good, youre going to a 3rd tier school, damn man, congrats......have you tested the e500.....the wind noise is a lot lower, or are you to busy sucking up to your dad......why dont you work at taco bell for a week, then you will realize the real world
and about youre statement about the e-class always having a v6...are you that stupid, check back in 15 years, the e-class will start at over 60 grand.......and when you say that your dealer treats you as a kig or whatever bull****, remember man, they have a 3 percent markup....and remember there are 3 invoices when dealerships buy carsa, and remember they get free cars if they sell a lot of cars, they made a **** load off of your family..what do you think....they are going to treat you like a kia dealership, and stop talking **** about toyota, you would be lucky if you could drive a toyota i you werent getting a free ride from your dad....mbz sales people are nothing compared to toyota, or lexus...and stop comparing the s600 to the ls430, cant you count the difference by now.....and why is it that you cant stop talking about the reclining seats....**** man, we know!!!!!

You need to calm down.
Check back in 15 years? I sure will, and there will be a V6 then aswell. Why do you think there will not be a V6 model? Where is your reasoning coming from? You have no idea what you are talking about, you don't even have your license!
Yes, the E-Class starts at over 60 grand... IN CANADA.
Lighten up.

lol, im just mad because he thinks of toyota and lexus and crappy cars, but they are not.....and accord.....i still dont understand, why do so many electronic failures happen with mbz, i thought they would be very reliable, and please dont reffer to you dads cars...i honestly dont believe whatever you say anymore...my family have only owned handas or toyotas, and we have never had one problem...we had one problem with our 92 camry wagon, that is it...
The dealers here, who have been driving both cars A LOT think they are EXACTLY the same except for the engine power. At cruising speeds, the engine RPM and noise is mainly dependent on the final gear ratios and is usually the same (at least had been between their V6 and V8). The frame is the same, the leather is the same, all options are the same. Of course some are included in the $8000 extra so it is not all for the engine. I do think the cost per HP is pretty low especially compared to a lot of other car including MB engine upgrades but lets not kid ourselves, the 320 and 500 are otherwise identical cars with completely interchangable parts and construction.
Also, remember that in the US, we get the top tier cars. The biggest sellers in other parts of the world are often diesels or other engines with far less power than even the 320. They know we tend to like the best and the fastest and a lot of people have a lot of money to blow. If they had 5 engine levels in the US they would sell a lot fewer E500s and they know that.

Barney I agree with you. There should be no difference in wind noise between the noise models. Engine noise is a different story. For reference, the BMW 525i is now available. In Europe, do they have any four-cylinders? The V-8 vs. V-6 issue is mostly about price and buyer profiles. The S-class is an expensive model and these days buyers demand it. Will there be a V-8 Camry in the near future? Probably not.
bmms8: I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself because your dad is buying the E500 and not the E320. Don't worry, it's natural to become excited about what your family is getting. I just think people are hesistant to take your opinion when you do not have your driver's license and therefore have not been behind the wheel of the car. Hope your dad enjoys the extra power or at least uses it. Will he use it when he gets the car or just on test drives? Hehe. Most people tend to get the V-8 for status. BTW, I will only be free to show you the detailing ropes for a few more weeks before shipping out to college. Let me know.
Accord: Just leave him alone, everyone will have there opinion. Being older than him, you should lead by example.
Okay!!! I hope everyone has stopped crying so we can get back to business.
