$756.00 to replace front brakes. is this acceptable?
I am in SF bayarea. My front brakes are almost out, dealer told me they can replace and costs me $756 for both front brakes. Is this good price? Please advise.....

Very unacceptable, even with both rotors. Half of that would still be too much for just front brake pads. I suggest you canvass elsewhere. I'm sure a lot people from this forum would know where to find a good deal in your area.

I paid about $650 for both rear and front pads at Smythe European in San Jose. I just spoke with SF Mercedes and they are offering brake pads special right now: Front $199 and back for $169. Needless to say I'm not real happy with my price.

thanx i got a quto for rear brake and rotor $495.00 appointment tomorrow morning...on the side note...San Diego MB is really bad with price and cust service..they told me for rear brake and rotor would cost $700.00 and i couldnt get a appointment till next friday, i'm suppost to drive with bad brakes for a week... anyways..
one question..
i'm a new owner...how often do i have to change my oil?
i had a lexus before and that was every 5000 miles..
i was wondering if that apply to the e-class as well, what would be a reasonale price for oil change? dealer told me $100.00 do they do anything extra?

We bought our 07 from SD MB and I would be so far up my salespersons backside if that was the schedule they gave me.
Check you manual for items in your scheduled service items and tell them they are not consistant with other local MB dealers for their brake service. They should come back in line.
Good Luck.

2003 E500
I actually have that same question - My 2003 E500 has 18,000 miles on it, and my dealer just advised that I'm getting close (another 2,000 miles or so) to needing brakes and rotors, and they guesstimate $1,300-$1,500.
Is it me, or does 20,000 miles seem a bit soon to be needing brakes and rotors?

If you've run down the pads in 20K, my guess is that you'll also need new rotors. How big is the lip around the rotor edge? This will give you a good idea if your rotors have had it.
Also, brakes wear according to people's driving habits/environments. For example, my front brakes have 65K on them, but my driving is 90% highway commuting never exceeding 50mph.

I replaced my front and back pads at 29K. Pretty serious squeaking coming from the front pads. Strangely the brake pad monitor never went off. I did not have to change the rotors though this time.

You can read more about the FSS (and where I got this info) from the pdf document ("219 HO FSS Plus (WFF) 08-16-02.pdf") at http://www.mercedestechstore.com. Look at their training files.

looking
Last time I was in the dealer, they said I need pads and rotors on the front, and it would cost 900$. this was at Autobahn in San Mateo, CA
Now, I am looking for either another dealer, or seconday to do both on a 2001 C class. Anyone in the bay area know a good shop on the peninsula to do this job?

yes but sbc make it a bit more tricky. the list of items that can "prime" the sbc pump and make it seat the pads is extensive. Last thing I want is my finger near the pad when 2300 psi of pressure tries to seat the pads. I think that equals one less finger and a whole lot of paint.

If you're not a mechanic then it don't matter. You're a danger to yourself anyway so pay the labor and keep pointing..

If the sensor was going to warn you soon, arent you better off combining the 2 services into 1 day? I'm pretty sure the dealer wouldn't tell you to replace the brakes with thousands of miles left on them. I get all upset if I have the car in for service and then I have to go back 2 weeks later for something that should have been caught on the last trip in a couple of weeks ago.

26,000 mile for the 1st front brake job?
My car is at 26,000 mile. Is it make sense that front brake need replace on this mile?
Independen shop (non dealer) quote: Part $95+Sensor $20+ Labor $95, Total =$210.
Other question:
If I purchase the car (not lease), for the long run, Is it better to have oil change every 6500 mile (in between A& B service) or Just like at every A& B Service (every 23,000 mile?).
Thanks for advise
