Stuck Compartment for Phone/Glasses

Dear All: The compartment for mobile phone/glasses/etc. (left of glove box lid release), which I frequently use for storing coins, got stuck, and does not open anymore when the front face is pushed. My best guess is that some coins may have become entangled with the spring mechanism, thereby degrading its functionality. How do I get the whole box out from the compartment? I do not want to visit my MB Dealer for this seemingly simple problem. However, any advice will be appreciated.

I had the same problem some time ago.

Try opening the glove box, pop off the plastic "?button" cover surronding the glove box keyhold. You should be able to squeeze a finger behind the front facia of the sunglass holder/box.

Try clicking the sunglass box a couple of time until the release is engaged and then add a bit of pressure outwards to guide the box out.

Hope it helps

Do either wht the previous poster said or take it in. You don't wanna break something and have the warranty not cover it.

Had this happen to the rear cup holder in the fold down arm rest....stuck and
nothing I or the dealer could do to un stick it. They ordered a complete new armrest and problem solved ( under warranty, of course) So, take it to the dealer.

I'm having the same issue right now. Would you please post pics of the "button cover" you're referring to?

Thanks

I have a 2003 E320 that we bought off lease. I have the same problem, stuck touch latch. I tried a plastic picnic knife but no luck. I will probably take it in as it also posts the consumer electrics message discussed recently. Funny how these problems appear to be recurring in a percentage too large to be considered coincidence. Newvertheless, what is inside this mysterious compartment? I have heard it described as a cupholder, glasses holder, and a cell phone holder. So far it is a useless holder.

Official name: Pop-open drawer in dash. Your call.

I think it is a cell phone compartment...if you have a bluetooth compatible phone and it is set up in your car, you can just put your phone in the compartment and use the comand to do your telecomunicating..

Page 266 of the "Operator's Manual E-Class Sedan" (2005 Edition) that came with my 2005 E320 4Matic defines it as "Compartment for Mobile Phone/Glasses." So, I was pretty close when I started the thread. Anyway, I have yet to fix the problem, nor did I call my MB dealer. Maybe we should all get a brand-new 2007 E, and the problem will go away. BTW, with all these minor inconveniences, I love my E, and cry often when I am on business travel renting standard vehicles.
