Battery replacement on '03 W211?
I'm coming up on four years and usually like to replace the battery as a preventive measure in cold Chicago. I understand this car has two batteries and would be interested in your experience. Did you replace yours yet? Did you replace one or both? Any recommendations?
Thanks,
John

I get 7 years out of the Mercedes low-maintenance batteries in my 300E. I got it in Minnesota cold and Arizona heat. Batteries don't last long in Arizona (I'm told).

Thanks for the reply
That's been my experience with batteries in recent years and for that reason I prefer just to replace them periodically rather than getting a surprise one day.

I have my originals!
I ripped the label off and manually opened up each cell and added distilled water about two years ago. Trickle charge the battery overnight for the new water and all has been well. I have not checked the smaller battery up front. Since you brought the topic up, I will now check that one in the morning.

I'm still on my original battery. I'm coming up on 4 years too.
I'm still on my original smart key battery too. I bought a replacement in case I need it. How long are they lasting for everyone??

Smart key
I actually brought my car in a year ago or so thinking there was a problem with the remote and it was just the key. The dealer replaced it for $10. I would replace it before it fails to open the car some day. You have to use the little metal key to get the door open and that sets off the alarm until you get the fob in the ignition, plus the telematics will call MB, who will in turn call your house and leave a message on your answering machine that security has been compromised.

Sorry, I did not understand it was for the batteries. Actually, dealers usually charge more than that for just the batteries even though they are a fairly common battery type.

The MB battery in the trunk aren't cheap according to my research how much they cost. As far as the life of the battery I'm already four years on it and hasn't given me any problem my old W210 E320 is a 96 and had it original battery and hasn't died on me. That's cause I maintain the battery periodically since you know what they say about those battery are maintence free which is not true, since there are no such thing as "maintence free" so checking the water level and charge hold keeps in check for battery to last much as 84 months at most

Don't you have the OEM AGM batteries in your car? Those came stock in my 03 E320 and don't require water being added.
I had to replace my aux battery a few months ago -- main battery is still doing OK.

paul...
