Need Oil Change.....

i have 9700 miles on my 06 E350 and my oil level indicator came on instucting me to check my oil level at next fill up. so i did and it's low...so im wondering what type of mobil 1 oil to buy and how many quarts ?

i was also thinking of going to an ezlube or jiffy lube to change mo oil since the dealer want's $200 witch doesn't make any sence to me for a oil change.

Don't take ANY Mercedes to a Jiffy Lube let alone one on warranty.

Get 1 quart of Mobil 1 0W-40 or 5W-40 and pour it in.

Change your oil when multifunction display says to.

Damn what dealer are you using? An Oil change should be no more than $100 tops.

lkchris is right, and to add to that, don't take any car to Jiffy Lube!

Somebody should write up oil change instructions....like these guys did on their websites (anyone can post on cardomain.com)

http://www.c5forum.com/diy/oilchange.php (for a Corvette)

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2363586 (for a Saab)

They are probably just doing service A early which includes more than the only. Service A with tax is about $230 ish. You get service A either at your 1st 13k miles or 1 year.

I would never go to a jiffy lube you will be sorry.

Use AMSOIL European Formula 5W-40. Recently put 11 QT in my car and it runs a noticeable bit sharper than before.

Your vehicle should still be under warranty and the warranty covers free service, inlcuding oil & filter changes

Just one reason I bought my car at the end of the 2004 model year. I also have the *good* console, EZ Exit feature (when it works) and some other things taken out of later cars.

BMW's maintenance was and is more complete than what MBUSA provided. BMW covers wear items like brakes, windshield wiper blades, etc.

Seriously, all anyone really lost after the 2004 model year is 3 free oil changes worth about $300. It's not worth worrying about.

I just brought my car in for the FSS which was an oil change, brake fluid change, air and cabin filters. I asked how much it would cost after the free service ends and he said slightly over $600!

The previous 2 FSS have been oil changes only (and inspection of different areas) so, based on the $600 price, maybe they'll charge $200-300!

If so, free maintenance has saved over $1000! I hate to see the bills after free service ends. Why it the dealer a stealer? Makes me think twice to getting a Mercedes. Either that or I have to find an indie to do the work. I hope they don't price their work like the stealer does!

I forgot about the brake fluid change. It seems to me my dealer charges something over $100. The air filters list for $58 for my E320 and should take about 10 minutes to change. An oil change costs about $100 at a dealer. The activated charcoal cabin filter set lists for $100. I'm struggling to find $600 worth of work.

Of course dealer service charges are insane nowadays. I paid a total of $89.99 labor at dealers during the first 10 years of ownership of my '91 300E. That was for changing brake fluid, transmission fluid and differential fluid. The car was 12 years old before it had to have a repair (head gasket).

In any case, the amount of money I might have saved by owning a 2004 pales in comparison to even the cost of my license plates here in Arizona. It certainly wasn't enough to make a buying decision in and of itself.

Information....

"Free Maintenance" is just a marketing gimmick. Nothing is ever free. When you see this offer with a car, it only means that the cost of this service is included in the price of the car.

True...I've got to believe we've all been around the block enough times to have this figured out.

I'm not trying to call you out S93, but did you figure the cost of this maintenance as part of the car price into your savings? My guess is that you're still in the hole.

There is such thing as free maintenance. The 2005 Mercedes E class (no free maintenance) was about the same price (slightly more) than a 2004 that includes free maintenance.

I think Volvo did away with free maintenance but the price stayed about the same.

In reality, this can prove that there was a cost (to the consumer) associated with the "free" maintenance. The 2005 price was raised based on in part, the value of the US Dollar (Dollar - Euro Exchange rate). By removing the cost of the "free maintenance", they were able to put out the 2005 at around the same MSRP than the 2004.

So who pays the service technicians salary while they are performing "free" maintenance? Who pays for the parts? Who pays for the time that the car is in the service bay? All of these things have associated costs which are paid for by the manufacture. The manufacture pays for these things out of the money that you paid for your car. So the cost of this maintenance is indeed factored into the MSRP of the car.

Takes about 20 minutes with a fluid evacuator (suck it out from the top). I do it sometimes if I feel like it and its a pretty easy job. I normally do it my self for the in the middle oil changes between services but I let the dealership do the main a and b services so it goes in the books as being serviced etc.

The filter (like most Mercedes) can be replaced from the top of the engine. I also use an evacuator and it's a pretty simple job. It even works with the 15W-50 Mobil 1 I use in my 300E which is like goo. I just get the oil good and warm and in 20 minutes or so, I've got it out.
