W211 Wagon Security

Okay I have an interesting problem for you folks. I'm seriously considering getting a W211 wagon, as I need the extra space sometimes and don;t want to go the SUV route.

My only issue with getting a wagon is that I occasionally tote around with very expensive computer and communications equipment. With a sedan I feel somewhat secure about leaving this stuff in the trunk with the valet lock feature.

I'm not concerned with loosing this stuff per se but having the information fall into someone else's hands. What can be done about this? Is there any place in a W211 wagon where I can secure a couple of laptops and some other gear with a lock? Do they make anything for this purpose?

I realize of someone is determined enough they will get in but at the least I want some security from break-in and grab-it situations.

That storage compartment between the second row and rear-facing seats seems pretty good for that. Though it doesn't lock, it's pretty hard to get to without putting in a little work. And, you gotta know it's there.

Beyond that, there's doo-dah for secure storage in the S211. Took my wife awhile to get over that... she now uses the storage cubby. Not foolproof, as mentioned, but at least stuff's not readily visible...

I'm surprised absolutely no wagon manufacturer has a a lockable solution for this. Seems like such a basic thing to have, to be able to secure a few valuables in a compartment that can be locked. I'd gladly take such a compartment over the rear facing seats for which I will have absolutely no use. I'm sure the seats are useful to many but it would be nice to have the option to switch the seats out for a lockable storage compartment.

I couldn't find any aftermarket solutions either. The ones I found were hideous monstrosities used to lock guns in a vehicle but I'm looking for a more elegant solution.

I thought that there was one manufacturer that had a small lockable storage area near the rear tire; Audi maybe?

Remove the rear-facing seat and you'll have a storage compartment.

That's the case on vehicles that don't come with this option.

We don't have third seat, and the storage in-place is not lockable.

Is it usually lockable? We have the Easy Pack load floor option, and it's not lockable.

This is the storage unit that's been discussed before. It's shaped like a Toblerone. Not even big enough to get a football through the opening, as far as I can tell. (Don't own a football at present!)

A laptop is thinner than a football That's really my biggest concern. If this thing can fit a laptop it will seal the deal for a W211 wagon for me. I just really need to be able to store some stuff relatively safely and not have to worry about it.

This will not store a laptop, unless you can roll your laptop up like a tube. The interior dimensions are not big enough.

This is more like a thing to store a purse or clutch (man purse) in.
