I went in dallas,TX 9/21. Although they did let you drive the car ALONE on a very very short coned off course, I was disappointed.

I was expecting something a little more extravagant with a better test drive; the course is like 30 seconds long

I drove the only car with the sport pkg (500)and yes the car can be lowered...you can see the star go lower when pushing the button.

Beautiful car tho !

I went to the Miami E-Motion event and had a great time. I drove both the 320 and the 500 numerous times. They had a short course involving acceleration, braking, slalom, curves, etc. Nice event IMO.

I also was at the event in Dallas on 9/21. I felt the courses were too short and did not allow for enough of a drive--even after going through the line a few times. Overall it was worthwhile, but I was hoping for a bit more. Oh well...

Miami event was first class! I spent a total of 6 hours at the Gulfstream Racetrack, driving hard the new E-class "Thoroughbreds"!!

Additionally, MB provided for stationary sit-ins: the new CLK, -- SL500, S500, CL500, M500, and the Gelaendewagen 500.

Plus gourmet food & refreshments, Saks' massages, Sony HD TV, and a lot of technical personnel, giving you the straight scoop - incl. distronic is a useless device/option for $3,000 -- for driving in and around metropolitan areas.

As has been said: "It only costs a little more to go first-class." MB went beyond first-class.

Kudos to MB!!

I went with my parents to the Emotion event in Tarrytown, NY. I had a great time (considering I'm 21, so I can actually drive the cars). They had 20 E500s to take out onto public roads. Yeah, they gave us a short route map, but once you're out on public roads, you could basically do whatever you want. I did some 0-70-0 in the Mercy College parking lot...I now truly appreciate Sensotronic brakes, though my parents were not amused (they're not car people). Unfortunately, police presence was high on the roads...and a speeding ticket is the last thing I need.

I think MBUSA accomplished their mission...my parents already decided their next car will be another Benz (not bad, considering they had their new Jag for a month).

By the way, I hear Mercedes is coming out with an improved Distronic that works in stop-and-go traffic.

i was at the dallas event too.....less than thrilling. last year's Powertrip" was a better event. Course should have been longer and it would have been nice to have other models too. although i know it was the coming out party for the e class they're celebrating. at least they had the other models to sit in and gaze at.
does anyone else feel the doors don't close with that authoritative, bank vault "thunk" like the W210's do? i thought it was very obvious and telling. is it just chepaer doors or is that how the new lightweight steel is? That door closing thing is one of the highlights of finishing a drive for me. it gives me reassurance that i'm driving one of the finest cars available.

Completely agree...

that it was disappointing. A wimpy drive, no real info at the presentation; and cooking demonstrations? It's just that much more obvious how far MBUSA is getting from people who really love cars...Yes, the powertrip was way more fun and impressive. This would impress only midlevel folks who had never owned a real nice car, or been to an event like this. I guess that's the customer they were looking for.

you do get to actually drive the cars.....not a big deal for you though if you're about to get an e500. i think for someone unfamiliar with MB, it might be worthwhile.

Just to clarify, bmms8 indicated that at the E-Motion event he would not get to drive. That is not because the event does not allow licensed drivers to drive the cars. All of such events provide driving experiences of one sort or another. I think it is because bmms8 is not licensed yet.

NY event - a few weeks ago

Went to the NY event and I found it a great way to spend a few hours. It was well done and I enjoyed the time behind the wheel. A good way to get a look without too much trouble. Overall a nice way to spend a few hours on a nice day.
