Break squeak - MB says it is normal for MB brakes to squeak

Hello,

So I go the dealer yesterday and tell them that my brakes squeak and the pads are only at 50% with new rotors.

Service manager talks to me and tells me that "warranty does not cover squeaking brakes and that MB will not pay for it".

He tells me he has S55 and E55 owners complain but MB says some break squeaking is normal because MB brakes are about performance.

What do you guys think? I'll be calling 1-800-formercedes

Breaks are "wearable" parts, definitely not cover by any warranty.
Usually uneven surface cause squeaking sound, specially if you just change your rotors w/out changing the pad or vice versa.

If you see your rotors has uneven surface, or groove line, that is possible indication that your piston is not install properly, or if you have dual pistons caliber then it may also indicate one of the piston is dying.

I think you just have to replace the anti-squeak compound on the back of the pads...which involves taking the pads out first ofcourse.

Breakes and rotors were replaced at the dealer 5K ago all new. Breaks are not covered by warranty but break squeaks should be.

You could mention DTB P-B-42.10/51e FEB06 - Front brake squeal. The front brake linings, piston dampers, and pressure retaining springs will be inspected and replaced with modified parts under warranty if need be.

My 2007 E350 has 1200miles and the brakes squeal. It seems to occur after driving in heavy stop and go traffic. A co-worker has 2006 CLS500 with the same issue and dealer gave the same story. I thought about bringing it in but don't want to waste my time.

Good luck with the break squeak. I've had the same problem with mine at 13k miles and continue to. Dealer put new pads on front, but still does it and now they claim it's because I need new rotors and pads at all 4 corners.

MB will use any excuse to not fix the problem. They know if they find a solution, it will cost them a fortune as, you are not alone on this problem.

BMW FTW
Go onto an empty access road.. Get your car up to 80 MPH then hit the brakes hard but not hard enough to kick ABS in.. Slow your car down to 10 mph and let off then accelerate to 80 and repeat 3-4 times, on your last run slow to 10 mph then go back up to the speed limit and dont use your brakes for as long as possible (the worst thing to do is come to a stop since the rotors will be hot as heck and you will have to start over again)... After you do this stop your car put it in Park and dont use the parking brake... Your rotors should have a blueish looking color to them which means you have broken them in right..

For the 07 or sports package cars you may have to do this 5-7 times because of the ventilated brakes.

Basically this cleans the rotors off and beds them in. Squeaking is mostly caused by dust and other junk that has gotten onto the rotor.

E500 Brakes

The brakes have squeaked since I bought this car with 16K after complaining to the dealer numerous times they finally replaced the Rotors & pads, the noise started again in a few thousand miles or less, they than put the grease in that didn't last long. The car has now 26K and the brakes are no different than when I first bought it. MB customer service is useless.

I love the car, the seats, the Nav. I never had a problem with VW, Porsche and Audi customer service.

The good part of brake squeal is that it does show intent to stop.

Yes, isn't it just flabbergasting how so few people understand this?

Anti-squeak grease is always required and there's no guarantee it will last the life of the pads--conditions can vary too much.

It's a maintenance item.

Do the maintenance.

Break squeaks not normal, and as usual MB will always find an excuse not to fix it. So get in there and push them to fix the problem.

I've been dealing with the same issues. It started at 14K and now has 19k. If anyone comes up with a solution, or knows of a way to get dealer to correct issue please post.

MB has done that for me and the problem occurred within a few days after.

There is another problem somewhere in the braking system causing this squeal sound, just nobody knows what it is.

Grease has nothing to do with it. My car started to squeak in 3k miles after delivery. Do you suggest to renew the grease every 3K miles?

Guys,

I can't be certain but when I took my car in for noisy brakes a year ago my S.A. said they replaced something called an anti-rattle spring? Something like that. Haven't had a problem since. I do alot of drugs though so I could totally be making this up.

Pressure retaining spring (referenced in DTB above)
