What is: MB Fuel Additive 000-989-25-45-12 ?
#2
It is a fuel aditive to use every two tank fulls at your normal gas station when you are not sure if the fuel being pumped is clean.
See my recent post about dirty fuel injectors on my E550.
After 20 something years driving MBs it is the first time my Service Rep tells me to do this.

Has anyone used this yet?`Is it helping or making a noticeable difference. Up to now I though that the use of any additives for oil or gasoline was strictly prohibited by the MB warranty guidelines and not recommended.

I wonder if it's Techron which is a Chevron additive in their fuel. A long time ago, BMW used to repackage it and sell it in their parts departments.
I would add it every couple of tanks and the service departments would add it during Inspections.
When we first bought our '84 190D, Mercedes dealerships would add a bottle of it to the fuel during Inspections.
I use Chevron fuel here at home and when I can find it on the road.

That is what I thought Frank, however it was the MB delaership/service rep that instructed me to do so after a failure on my E550 engine related to dirty injectors. Why they were so dirty at only 1500 miles beats me. I must have been filling up half gas half dirt I guess.
So I am using the stuff now for about a month and I really have not found or looked for any differences.

Was the ststion you had been using for Gas purchases old, crummy looking, off brand, or what?
Also, once the injectors are cleaned up from the Techron treatment, using a good hi detergent gas should keep them clean.

I am out of the country but the gas station was Exxon, owned and operated by Exxon. Filled with the best they have I believe the name is Exxon 8000 or something like that.
Supposed to be one of the best around where I live.

My SA said that the use of ethanol in the gas has caused carbon to buildup since the ethanol does not burn as hot as gasoline. MB is now recommending a de-carbonization every 30k miles and a bottle of RXP every 3 tankfulls.

RE: Fuel Additive
I always run either STP or GumOut Concentrated fuel injector cleaner every two months or 5th tankful. Idle always seems to get a bit smoother when it is used. That and occasional WOT run has kept my engines clean and carbon free. These products have served me well in many cars for the past decade.

I wonder if it's the BG stuff?
I just had my 2005 E320CDI in for a D service and my dealer has taken to adding both a BG motor oil additive and a BG fuel additive (hope it was the right fuel additive!) and charging for them without asking.
I'm un-thrilled with this and planning to pitch a bit of a fit. How can you do engine oil analyses with people adding random stuff to your oil?
I'm not as worried about the fuel, except that those injector pumps are expensive...
Do other dealers hawk the BG treatments? Has MBUSA somehow signed off on these?

A lot of dealers sell the BG products. They charge big $$ for them. It's not unusual to see them adding these products without permission. OTOH, BG makes some of the most potent additives out there.
(There's also an incentive to the mechanic for dumping the stuff in your car ...which is clearly a conflict of interest.)
