CDI oil change using an extractor

Have many here attempted to change their own oil using an extractor? What kind of luck have you had? Where do you get your filters? How much do they cost? How much oil does the CDI require?

And any other useful comments or observations.

Thanks.

oil extraction

I have used a Liquidynamics oil extractor for both my 05 CDI's for 50,000 miles each, changing the oil at 5,000 mile intervals. It works great. Just hook up your air compressor and plug one end into the extractor and the other end goes into the place where the dipstick used to be. There is an on/off valve on the liquidynamics hose with o rings that fit the opening perfectly. It takes about 3 minutes to drain all the oil, except a very small amount in the pan. The "dipstick tube" goes all the way down to the bottom within a fraction of the bottom of the pan. Good luck.

I just loooked under the hood and could not find the oil dipstick tube (I know there is no dipstick). Any help for the CDI (pictures please) would be appreciated.

05 CDI dipstick tube

If you stand in front of the car, look on the right side, rear of the engine compartment. You should see a red cap on a tube. That's it.

I don't see it! Do you have to remove the engine cover to see it? On the passenger side of the engine compartment there is what looks like a dipstick tube covered with a black cap that I cannot remove with the label "mechanic only" or something to that effect.

Yes, you have to remove the cover to see it. You have to remove the cover to unscrew the filter housing anyway. I change my oil every 5,000. I currently have 85,000 on my CDI and have an extractor as well but do not like it. I drain it from the bottom which involvews removing the bottom panels. I have experimented by extracting then draining and am amazed how much oil it leaves in the sump - almost 1/4 quart.
