Is this a good deal on service D and brakes?

I know this has been asked before, but I wanted to ask the forum again.

I was just quoted $1056 plus tax to have both front and rear brake pads replaced and a service "D" check up.

At first I thought with extended warranty that my service "D" was included. (2003 E320) Can anyone clairfy this for me?

Also the front and rear brake replacement broken down is $248 front and approx $320 for the rear.

I'm new to the forum so I do apologize for any repeat questions.

what year is your car... my car needs a service d - and i called my dealer and its free. This is a 2004. Brakes and rotors are not free as that is a wear and tear item.. same goes with tires/wipers. etc.

E500
Dropped 03 E500 for service D on friday. Walnut Creek dealer quoted $1500 for filters no brake work. My rear shock will be replaced due to leaking under warranty. I have 100K warranty plan. They gave me a C230 to drive around till monday or tuesday. I'll post the actual item costs when I get the receipt. Seems I drop $1K a year at least on this car even with my warranty coverage?

I guess once your out of the initial factory warranty you have to pay for service. Any 03-04 still under the initial 4/50 - these services are free.

Extended warranty does not cover the service D which was free during the 4/50K warranty. The cost for the brake pads replacement is good, however, to pay almost $500 just for the D service is rather high. Check with another dealer if you have the choice.

To the original poster...

Extended warranty does not imply extended maintenance. Any service would be covered under the original 4yr/50K mile maintenance plan (available 2004 and earlier years). A brake job is considered a wear and tear item, which is not covered under warranty NOR free maintenance.

YUP that's what I found out.

But you must consider for me to change oil at home on the E500 is

8 qts oil at about $5.50/qt and $30 for the filter so about $75 just for materials. I don't mind the dealer but it is a 100 mile drive for an oil change. I do have much of the service at the dealer however oil / air/ brake is an easy at home service.

Service

You should bring up the serivce menu and see what "items" are listed. The dealer is not doing a lot for what your paying. Most of the services are, changing oil, replacing the air filters, checking the brakes, wipers, battery. Minor stuff that many of us use to check before we had Mercedes.
I paid $90 for oil and filter change. I paid $625 for new front disks and 4 sets of pads+sensors at an independant Mercedes shop. Previously I paid $280 for pads and sensors only. (about half of the costs was parts)
The two charcoal filter under the passenger side dash are about $120 a set online. The charcoal filter in the back of the passenger side engine compartment is about $20. The two engine air filters are $40 online. The filters are easy to replace.
There's fuel filters to be replaced (service 5 @ 5yrs ,60k mi). Looks like you need a special wrench to remove them. So I won't attempt that yet.
