The part number is 49-850B, 36 month replacement warranty, 96 month pro rata. The specs were the same as the battery that was replaced.

I finally replaced my first battery after 7 years and 3 months--the one in the trunk.

My dealer suggested it would be a lot cheaper to call Mercedes Roadside Service. I did, and they only had the white battery with them, and the original battery is the black battery. They explained the difference to be that the white battery is a wet cell battery and the black battery is a dry cell battery. Because there are other electronics in that area of the trunk, the recommended battery is the black one. If you were to use the white one and it were to have (an unlikely) leak, it would cause a lot of expensive damage. The white one on sale installed would have been $200--and they quoted $345 for the black battery not on sale, but they didn't have one on the truck. But they wouldn't replace it at all because the battery tested okay.

But the "electrical consumers switched off" light continued to appear occasionally, I had it checked at my dealer, and they replaced the trunk battery with the black battery for $458 including labor but not tax.

They told me it is unusual for batteries to go this long, but they checked the two batteries under the hood and said they still check out fine.

I am also still on my original key battery too. I've been carrying around a spare battery for over 5 years!

So if you can call Roadside Service, it will probably cost you less than going to the dealer. And it may be important that you know which color to buy.

I would not consider a leak unlikely. My 99 corvette OEM battery post leaded acid which ran down the frame to the PCM. Fortunately I was watching the battery for this issue and pulled the battery before it caused real damage. I did have to pull the battery box, neutralize the spill, clean it all, then repaint all damaged components. I now use an Optima in my corvette and have had no further leak issues. So don't count on one NOT leaking. I would recommend a monthly check if you are using one that "might" leak.

It isn't only about the risk of a battery leak but the AGM battery is charged differently too and the car electronics assume an AGM battery.

You are correct my optima is giving up after 8 years. You would have thought it might made 10.
