Happens all the time.

Very little damage likely.

Just don't get up to 60mph before disengaging it.

If you were able to back up, it wasn't engaged very hard. Had you driven around like that the heat that would be generated could have done some damage. Forget about it! ..if it was applied properly, you wouldnt have been able to move the car without a lot of shuddering and engine roar.

You did no more than some minor powerbraking. Obviously nothing you want to do often, but at the low speed you were at you should be fine.

Just curious, why was your footbrake applied in the garage?

My cousin applies the emergency brake on all of his cars no matter what. I forgot why, but he had a pretty good reason too. Maybe someone can chime in and I'll remember. Haha.

On some cars, applying the "Emergency Brake" Adjusts the rear brakes.

Yup, I apply the emergency brake every single time I park. It takes stress off your transmission (prevents "leaning" against the gears). However, it only works if you apply the handbrake before you let go of the service brake when you park.

It's totally unnecessary if you're parked on a level surface, but our senses can commonly misguide us.

I know a lot of people who don't put on the brake while parked, I tend to most times but its more of a habit...

+1

i do it every single time, mainly by habit, but that's from driving a stick shift all my life, where there's the risk of it slipping out of gear etc.
