950 happy miles here.
As far as the break in period goes, with a V8, I for the most part have by default stayed within the range.

Some people say 1K for break in, other say 3K. Argghhhhh, which one is the right one?? I almost reach 1K, and I can't stand anymore, now I have to wait 2K more???

Well, the manual says 1K. Why would you do something other than what the manual states?
Also, I'm curious, in metric countries is it 1600Km in the manual? I remember with VW jetta, the US manual said 1000 miles and the european manual said 1000Km. Needless to say I followed the European advice

I agree
I agree with bmms8. My e320, which I've had for a month now and have 740 miles on it, is my fourth MB, and it has always paid off in the long run to break the engine in slowly.

Break-in has always been debated. You can't go wrong with 1000 miles though. The engine actually breaks in fairly fast (once the seals drop), but the transmission is what needs some time.

Can you even accelerate briskly keeping it under 2.5k? BMMS8, RPM is the same everywhere, that was hilarious of you to say.
Usually the rule of thumb is to keep it under 2/3 the max rpm. It would only take longer for the engine to break in if you baby it too much. So don't exceed 4000 rpm or go above 100 mph. 2500 rpm and 75 mph is way too conservative, but do what makes you happy.
Potxoli, the interesting thing is that it says 1000 km in foreign manuals that I have seen in the past. That would only make break-in around 620 miles.

hmm....so you mean i can start pushing it to around 3.5?? Whew...that'd be a lot nicer..
accelerating under 2.5 isn't bad, it kind of feels like the engine's unhappy and nobody notices that i'm holding back but the lower rpm's do give substantial power imo. not too fast...but i'm just waiting...

OK, so now we are clear about the rpm and the speed for break in period, now, how long do we have to keep like that? 1000 is enough for me, i dont know about you guys.
