You see, in the States the difference is not much between the 320 and 500, but in Australia where we pay a fortune for these cars, another $30K is alot.

As it is, this car will nearly cost me the price of a new Ferrari in the States.

I almost cry when I hear of the prices of cars and options on this forum in other countries and how accessable they seem to so many.

Without blowing my own trumpet, you have to be quite well off to afford to buy these cars over here, especially the S and SL Classes.

Hey Callway, a have been debating the price of cars with a fellow Aussies (no offense) on the E55 section. It seems you tell the truth about the the huge difference in price you Aussies pay for Mercedes cars. It is hard to make a comparisom because Australians pay so much for the same model and no taxes are added to the list price of the US cars.

Interesting debates.

I can't believe you yanks call the 'sun roof' a 'moon roof'? That's funny. How did it ever get to be called the opposite?

I really don't think there's a chance MB would release information like that to anyone.....even it's dealers.

I thought a moon roof would make perfect sense to you being from down under.

Out of habit most people probably refer to it as a "sunroof". The car companies refer to the glass ones as moonroofs to distinguish between the non glass ones.

The difference between a 'sunroof' and the newer term 'moon roof' is the sunroof is usually metal and the moof roof is glass - hence being able to see the moonlight without opening it. At night and cold evenings I like being able to slide back the cover and let the moon light in.

thanks Kev. That makes sense, I haven't heard of the term 'moonroof' down under. Under the MB extras it's listed as;
- electric sunroof, glass version.

I was considering a Jaguar S-Type V8 before I bought my E500. The Jag is a beautiful car one of the best looking on the road IMO. I'm pretty sure it had a glass sun/moon roof with a sunshade standard. The S-Type is much cheaper than the new E especially with the deals they were willing to give me. I decided in the end that MB was best for me and I think the E's quality and technology is better too, although Jaguar has improved in both areas.

yes, it does have a glass moonroof, also, we were about to get a xj8, or s-type, but overall they arent good at all.....the materials are cheap, and they are over priced....the e has much more even though it is more expensive

There is way too much Ford design in the S-Type Jaguar IMO.

The "Ford curved" trunk, rear lights and chassis, cheap interior materials and layout (so much so they have just released a heavily updated version) and very average technical features.

You can't compare the Jag and the E Class in the same breath!!

Yup. i agree with Callaway. MB is much higher quality than Ford, and the Jag series does have hint of Ford-isms which made me not pursue any of their cars... at least for now.

The new XJ series is looking pretty nice... I want to see good pictures of them now. I saw the aluminum one, now I need what we can get.
